Eagles Drop 7-0 Decision to Kennesaw State

EMU falls at KSU
KENNESAW, Ga. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University softball team dropped its second-straight contest in the Georgia Tech/Kennesaw State Invitational Saturday, Feb. 9. The Eagles (1-2) fell to the Kennesaw State University Owls (3-0) by a score of 7-0 at the Bailey Softball Complex.
Abby Davidson (Westerville, Ohio-Olentangy Orange) led the offensive charge going 3-for-4 with a double, while Courtney Nicholson (Navarre, Ohio-Canton Catholic Central) put in a 2-for-2 effort at the plate.
In the circle, Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell) got the start for Eastern going 5.1 innings for the Eagles. Wells (0-2) was touched for six runs, on seven hits, while striking out four in the loss. Jenna Ignowski (Niles, Mich.-Niles) went the final two-thirds for EMU, and allowed one run on three hits. Abbey Mixon took the win for Kennesaw State, going a complete game, striking out 10 for the Owls.
Kennesaw State put up three runs over the first five innings and then caught-fire in the sixth, notching four more runs. The Owls used five hits in the sixth to plate the four runs.
The Eagles continue their 2013 campaign late this afternoon. EMU is scheduled to take on Butler University at 4 p.m. as part of the Georgia Tech/Kennesaw State Invitational. Eastern defeated the Bulldogs earlier in the tournament, 6-1.
