Gymnastics Hits the Road for a Pair of Meets

Eagles traveling to Northern Illinois and Southeast Missouri State this weekend

–  The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will pull off double duty this weekend, competing in one conference meet and one non-conference meet. First, the Eagles will travel to DeKalb, Ill. to take on Mid-American Conference foe Northern Illinois University Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m. The Green and White will then travel south to Cape Girardeau, Mo. to face Southeast Missouri State University Sunday March 3, for a 2 p.m. meet.

Prior to the two dual meets this weekend, EMU Associate Head Coach Andrea Siik chats with Eagle All-Access to talk about the season and preview the upcoming dual meets as well as the MAC Championships.

EMU SEEKING FIRST CONFERENCE WIN: The Eagles and the Huskies square off as Eastern is looking for its first conference victory of the season following three narrow losses in MAC play. NIU sports a 1-3 record in the MAC with its lone victory coming against Bowling Green State University, Jan. 19.

EAGLES FINISH SECOND IN BATTLE OF THE BIRDS: EMU finished runner-up in the Bowling Green Invitational, Feb. 23, a meet between three MAC schools that did not count against conference records. The Eagles recorded a 193.350 to take second in the battle of the birds as the host Falcons won the meet with a score of 194.525 while the Cardinals of Ball State tallied 192.775. EMU continued the trend of catching teams on its best meets of the season as BGSU's score was its highest since 2005. Khadijah Hudson tied for second in the all around in just her second time competing in each event during a meet through her EMU career with a personal-best score of 38.800. Hudson also paced the Eagles on the balance beam and floor exercise, tallying a career-high 9.775 on the beam for third place while recording a 9.825 on the floor to finish fifth Anna Willette led the Green and White on the vault with a third-place score of 9.825. Carrina Lo Bello soared through the air as the best EMU gymnast on the bars with a runner-up finish of 9.675.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES: Northern Illinois will host the Eagles at NIU's Convocation Center. The Huskies are 3-4 on the 2013 season including 1-3 in #MACtion, coming off a home setback to No. 21 Kent State, Feb. 23. However, the Cardinal and Black eclipsed the194 mark for the third straight meet that included a 49.200 on the floor exercise, second in school history.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS: The Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State are 2-5 for the 2013 campaign. After the opening the season with two victories, SEMO has lost five-straight, the two most recent losses coming at the hands of Illinois State, Feb. 15, and Feb. 24. The Redhawks are 0-3 against common opponents with EMU with the two losses to ISU and the other against Northern Illinois.

EAGLE INVITATIONAL AROUND THE CORNER: Eastern will return to the friendly confines of Bowen Field House next week, March 9, to host three teams for the Eagle Invitational in the final home meet of the season. The Air Force Academy, Kent State University and the University of Alaska-Anchorage will battle EMU beginning at 7 p.m.
