PEORIA, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team finished tied for eighth place on the final leaderboard Monday afternoon, Feb. 25, at the Westbrook Spring Golf Invitational. On the final day of competition the Eagles fired a team score of 300 to finish tied with No. 42 ranked Wisconsin. EMU's two-day total of 911 (308-303-300) kept them 49 strokes out of first place Texas Tech who recorded a final tally of two-under 862.
Leading the way for the Green and White was senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) who carded a six-over-par 78 on the final 18 holes. The junior from Wixom, finished the 54-hole tournament at eight-over 224 (74-72-78) to place in a three-way tie for 17th. Gabriela Lopez of Arkansas won the tournament with a nine-under par 208 (72-70-66).
Junior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) tied for 26th with a score of 227 (77-76-74). Junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada- Richmond Hill) managed rounds of 80, 78 and 72 for a 230 in 36th place. Senior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and freshman Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) rounded out the lineup with a 232 and a 242, respectively.
Competing as an individual, Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) finished in 74th place with a two-day total of 244 (88-83-83).
EMU is next in action Saturday, March 2, when they start competition at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz.
