BLANCO, Texas (EMUEagles.com) -- After posting a score of 640 (325-315) in the first day of competition, the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team shot a 330 on Monday, dropping them to seventh place overall at the Jim West Challenge. The Eagles managed an 970 (325-315-330) overall for the tournament, while it was No. 39 Texas State University that claimed the top spot with a team score of 930 (304-317-309) at the par 72 Vaaler Creek Golf Club course.
The 54-hole tournament, hosted by the Bobcats, featured 12 schools TSU finished with a 19-stroke edge on the leaderboard ahead of East Tennessee State University.
Eastern Michigan was led by Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) on Monday with a 77, which put her in a tie for seventh place overall for the tournament with a 233 (81-75-77). Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hill) followed in 17th with a 238 (78-76-84), while Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) was 38th after carding a 249 (83-78-88).
Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) managed a 258 (91-86-81), while Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) tallied a 254 (83-87-93). Playing as an individual, Lois Schoof (Amsterdam, Netherlands-Univ. of Amsterdam) had rounds of 85, 79 and 90 for a 43rd place tie.
TSU's Iman Nordin was the individual champion with a 227 (74-81-72).
Eastern Michigan returns to action Feb. 24-25 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational in Peoria, Ariz.
