Eagles Sit In Ninth Place After Day One Of Crooked Stick Invite

CARMEL, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team pieced together a pair of consistent rounds to sit in ninth place after two rounds of the challenging Crooked Stick Invitational, Oct. 14. The tournament, which features six of the nation's top 50 teams, will conclude on Tuesday at the 7,290-yard, par-72 Crooked Stick Golf Club designed by Pete Dye.
The Eagles recorded rounds of 310 and 305 for a day one total of 615 to finish the first day in ninth place. No. 6-ranked Georgia (295-290=585) sits on top the leaderboard, whole 31st-ranked Florida State (292-296=588) is just three strokes behind in second place. No. 25-ranked Arkansas is fourth (306-285=591) while 45th-ranked Florida and 50th-ranked Indiana are tied for fifth at 28-over par 604.
Sophomore Stuart Grehan (Tullamore, Ireland-Colaiste Choilm) currently sits in a tie for 19th with rounds of 76 and 74 for a 36-hole mark of 150. Arkansas's Sebastian Cappelen holds the two round lead with a three-under 141 (70-71) and Georgia's Nicholas Reach is two strokes back at 143 (73-70).
Junior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Ancaster Secondary-Pfeiffer) and sophomore Brett White (Kentwood, Mich.-East Kentwood) are tied for 39th with a 154. Freshman Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) and senior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario-Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) rounded out the lineup with 157 (77-80) and a 163 (83-80), respectively.
Action will conclude at Crooked Stick Golf Club on Tuesday morning. Student-athletes will have start times at 8:30am off No. 1 and 8:50am off No. 10 due to the threat of rain around 2 p.m.
