SKOKIE, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.-Saline-Savannah State) turned in top-50 showing, placing in a tie for 50th place at the 2012 Windon Memorial Classic, Sept. 23-24. The Saline, Mich. native carded a 74 in the final round to finish with a 232 (82-76-74).
On the 7,081 yard, par-71 Skokie Country Club course, the Eagles finished in 12th place with a team score of 931 (316-302-313) as Ohio State University took home the invitational hardware with a 881. Host Northwestern University finished one stroke back with a 882. Individually, Coastal Carolina's Ben Wheeler made three-straight birdies to end his day, including holing out from a greenside bunker on his 54th hole to tie Northwestern's John Callahan atop the standings. Callahan responded with a 25-foot birdie putt on his final hole to win by one.
Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) and Alex Jones (Dewitt, Mich.-Dewitt) gave the Eagles two more players among the top 60, after carding a 234 for a 55th place tie. Junior Brian Churchill-Smith Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) followed with a 239 (75-82-82) while Brian Burt (Dimondale, Mich.-Holt) posted a 243 (87-74-82) for 75th place.
Next up for the Head Coach Bruce Cunningham and the Eagles is the Fireston Invitational, Oct. 8-9, in Akron, Ohio.
