ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Despite periodic heavy rains and cool temperatures, junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) put together an impressive opening-day, firing a 36-hole total of 150 (75-75) at the Wolverine Invitational, Sept. 22. Kwon tallied five birdies on the day to sit two strokes behind the leader in third place on the par 71, 6,167 yards U-M Golf Course.
The Eagles as a team stand in third place at 623 (312-311), seven shots behind host Michigan. The Wolverine pace the 14-team field at 616 (308-308), while Florida International stands in second place at 617 (311-306).
Senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) is tied for seventh place with a 153 (79-74). Junior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) posted scores of 79 and 80 for 20th place. Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) and Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) rounded out the EMU lineup with 162 (79-83) and a 165 (83-82), respectively.
Playing as individuals, Rushda Mallick (Cape Town, South Africa-Glenwood House-Cape Peninsula University of Technology) is tied for 40th place with a 165 (82-83) and Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) is 84th after a two-round total of 182 (93-89).
Florida International's Meghan MacLaren leads the 89-player field by a stroke at 148 (74-74).
The Eagles will conclude the Wolverine Invitational with a final 18 holes on Sunday at the U-M Golf Course. The shotgun start is scheduled for 8:30 a.m., with EMU paired with Michigan and Florida International.
