Fairbairn Records Top 15 Showing at Fossum Invitational

Eastern Michigan finishes ninth as a team with a 931
EAST LANSING, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University senior Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School) recorded a top-15 showing, finishing in a tie for 12th place finish at the Mary Fossum Invitational here at the par 72, 6,348-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course, Sept. 15-16.
Competing against some of the region's best golfers, the Orangeville, Ontario, Canada native carded a 74 in the final round to finish with a 224 (75-75-74). The total is Fairbairn's second lowest career 54-hole score, only bettered by a 220 (72-73-75) at the Pat Bradley Invitational, Oct.23-25, 2011.
As a team, the Eagles finished ninth with a team score of 931 (311-309-311) as Purdue University took home the invitational hardware with an 875 (288-290-297). Texas State's Krista Puisite captured medalist honors with a one-under 215 (71-71-73).
Junior Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario, Canada-Richmond Hills) gave the Eagles another player among the top 35, after carding a 76 to finish tied for 31st with a 231 (76-79-76). Senior Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) followed with a 237 (81-76-80) while junior Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) turned in a 239 (79-79-81) for 60th. Junior Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) rounded out the lineup with a 269 (94-92-83) for 91st place.
The Eagles are next in action Sept. 22-23 at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.
