Are You Ready for Some Football? Practice Begins Friday!

Aug. 3 marks the first of 29 practices leading up to the kickoff against Ball State

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University football team begins its quest for a Mid-American Conference championship Thursday, Aug. 2, as the players report to training camp. The team's first practice is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 3, at 3 p.m.

The Eagles return 42 lettermen from the 2011 season. Senior linebacker Justin Cudworth (Monte Nido, Calif.-Agoura-College of the Canyons), senior tight end Garrett Hoskins (Grand Rapids, Mich.-Creston), senior offensive tackle Korey Neal (Bowie, Md.-St. John's), redshirt junior cornerback Marlon Pollard (Pomona, Calif.-Cajon-UCLA), sophomore kick returner Demarius Reed (Chicago, Ill.-Simeon Academy), senior running back Dominique Sherrer (Cincinnati, Ohio-Colerain), senior center Andrew Sorgatz (Wheaton, Ill.-Wheaton North) and senior offensive guard Corey Watman (Queensville, Ontario, Canada-Huron Heights) were all named to the 2012 Preseason All-MAC teams by Phil Steele's 2012 College Football Preview.

Eagle fans can get a chance to meet the team Sunday, Aug. 19, at Media Day from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. inside Rynearson Stadium. Fans will have a chance to get autographs and take photographs, as the squad sits down for its annual team photo shoot.

The Eagles will open their 121st season on the gridiron Thursday, Aug. 30, at Scheumann Stadium in Muncie, Ind. against MAC foe Ball State University. The Aug. 30 contest will be the 12th Mid-American Conference season-opening game in school history. The last MAC game to start the season was 2006 when EMU also made the trek to BSU.
