YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)–
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team will play the final three games of its 2012 home slate Friday-Sunday, May 4-6, against Mid-American Conference East Division foe Bowling Green State University at Oestrike Stadium. Friday's contest will begin at 6 p.m., while Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and Sunday's for 1 p.m.

EAGLES AND FALCONS SET TO BATTLE AT OESTRIKE: The Eagles (20-23; 10-8 MAC) enter the weekend second place in the West Division and two games behind the University of Toledo for first place. The Falcons (18-25; 7-11 MAC) are in a fourth place tie with Miami University in the East Division.

EAGLES TO HONOR SENIOR CLASS SUNDAY: Prior to Sunday's 1 p.m. game with the Falcons, the Eagles will honor their eight graduating seniors: Jordan Glover, Matt Hitt, Bo Kinder, Kyle Klein, Ben Magsig, Brent Ohrman, Tucker Rubino and  Collin Taylor. This year's class has helped the Eagles qualify for the MAC tournament in every season of their careers and played an irreplaceable role in capturing the most wins (37) for an EMU squad in 2011 since the 1982 campaign.

LISTEN ONLINE FOR FREE!: All three games of the EMU vs. BGSU series will be broadcast (audio only), free of charge, on EMUEagles.com/showcase. Tune in to hear Chad Bush call all of the action as Greg Steiner provides color commentary.

THE SERIES WITH BOWLING GREEN: The 156-game series between the Eagles and Falcons has largely been dominated by the Green and White, which owns an 89-67 advantage all-time. The Eagles have captured the previous two series with the Falcons by a 2-1 margin each time. Under fourth-year Head Coach Jay Alexander, EMU holds a 5-2 record which includes a 27-7 drubbing of BGSU in Alexander's first encounter with the Falcons, April 8, 2009.

UP TO SPEED: Eastern Michigan has dropped its previous two MAC series and is 2-4 over that span against Ball State University and Northern Illinois University. After being swept by Miami two weekends ago, the Falcons took two-of-three games from Ohio University last weekend.

FOUR DOWN, THREE TO GO: Northern Illinois came into Oestrike Stadium last weekend, April 27-29, and spoiled the beginning of EMU's seven-game homestand by taking two out of three games. In the series opener, Neil Butara pitched EMU's second complete game of the season, but came out on the losing end of a 1-0 decision. Butara gave up just three hits to Huskies batters, but EMU only posted two iteslf. The Eagles claimed the middle contest, 7-5, but dropped the finale by a 3-1 margin.

Eastern Michigan then kicked off the month of May with a home victory over Hillsdale College, 5-4. Tucker Rubino singled with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to score Dae Bowden and even up the homestand record at 2-2.

20/20: With a 5-4 win over Hillsdale Tuesday, May 1, the Eagles clinched their 20th-consecutive 20-win season. The last time an EMU squad did not reach that milestone was 1992, when the Green and White racked up only 19 victories. Since 1993, the Eagles are averaging 24.7 wins per season and have reached the 30-win mark on five occasions with the most recent coming last season (37-22).

WEB' GEM: Starting pitcher Steve Weber (5-3) followed up a complete game at Ball State with a strong 7.1-inning, 113-pitch performance against Northern Illinois to push his record to 4-0 in his last five starts. Weber allowed just three earned runs and seven hits and has averaged more than 6.2 innings per start over the five-game span. He has also taken over the team lead in strikeouts with 43 and, with 44 innings pitched, trails only Neil Butara (55.2) in that category.

HATS FOR BATS: After a fast start to MAC play, the Eagles have cooled off a bit lately. The first nine games of the conference season saw EMU amass a 6-3 record, but the squad has posted a 4-5 ledger since then to hold a 10-8 mark after 18 games.

The cause of this recent slump could be as simple as checking the team's batting average over that time. During the first nine MAC games, the Eagles were batting .305 with a .406 on-base percentage. The last nine games have seen the Green and White manage just a .233 clip and a .338 OBP.

Overall, Eastern Michigan's team batting average has dropped from a high-water mark of .293 on April 11 to a current clip of .278.

EARN YOUR KEEP: Despite some offensive struggles of late, the Eagles have been receiving some stellar contributions from their pitching staff. EMU hurlers enter the weekend with a collective ERA of 5.99 to mark the first time this season the staff has posted an average under six runs.

Over the last seven games, the team ERA is a miniscule 3.03 with starter Steve Weber going 2-0 over that period and reliever Jordan Glover allowing no runs and just one hit in 5.2 innings of work.  Glover, Collin Taylor, Jeffrey Rousseau, Ben Dartnell and Taylor Dimmerling all have ERAs of zero during the seven-game stretch.

NATIONAL RANKINGS: According to the latest NCAA composite statistics released April 30, the Eagles rank in the top-50 in five offensive categories: walks (sixth, 221), triples (13th, 20), triples-per-game (13th, 0.48),  sacrifice flies (15th, 27) and on-base percentage (42nd, .384).

Additionally, EMU players own nine top-50 rankings in four different categories. Ben Magsig is eighth nationally in on-base percentage (.519) and 16th in walks with 39. The senior infielder is also 15th in walks-per-game (0.95).

Daniel Russell is 22nd  (0.86) in walks per game. His triple against Ball State gave him five three-baggers, which is good for 29th in the nation. He is also 21st in triples per game (0.14). On the mound, Steve Weber is tied for the 31st-most games started (10).

OHRMAN'S STREAKS END: An 0-for-4 evening in a 1-0 loss to Northern Illinois, April 27, snapped Brent Ohrman's streak of 23 straight games with a hit and 26 consecutive games reaching base safely. The senior outfielder's hitting run was the longest by an EMU player this season and second longest in the MAC. His on-base streak was two behind Bo Kinder's team-best mark of 28.

With an outstanding senior season, Ohrman as solidified his spot in the EMU record books. The Adrian, Mich. native is currently fifth in career at-bats (714), tied for eighth in career runs scored (140) and ninth in hits (213).

FOLLOW THE LEADER: The Eagles' .385 on-base percentage is tops in the MAC, while Ben Magsig's .516 OBP is the best individual mark in the conference. Magsig also holds the honor as the MAC's top walks-getter with 40 and is tied with Bryce Redeker of Miami for the leader in the hit-by-pitch category (12).  He eclipsed his previous season high of 36 free passes in 2010 with 40 in 2012, which is tied for the seventh best single-season walks total by an EMU player. Magsig has reached base safely in 27 straight contests as of May 2.

GO ON, SAMMY: It has been difficult to classify Sam Ott as an infielder, outfielder or designated hitter this season, seeing as how the redshirt sophomore has spent so much time at all three of those positions. A walk-on in 2010, Ott is the only EMU player to start in every game this season and has spent 20 games at first base, 15 in the outfield and eight as the designated hitter. All the while, Ott maintains the third-best batting average on the team (.316) and put together a 14-game hitting streak earlier this season.

RUSSELL AND FLOW: Daniel Russell legged out his fifth triple of the season against Ball State for the 11th of his career. He moved into a tie with Nick Soliz (1998-2001) for eighth all-time on the EMU career triples list and is now four three-baggers behind Pete Casteel's single-season record of nine in 1967.

TAKE YOUR BASE: EMU is on pace to walk 280 times this season, which would fall just shy of the school's single-season record of 286 set in 1982. In 39 games, the Eagles have drawn a MAC-best 227 walks for an average of 5.3 free passes per contest. The closest challenger to the Eagles' walk total in the conference is Central Michigan (193) as of May 3.

Eastern Michigan walked a total of 234 times last season for second-most in the Mid-American Conference to trail only CMU (235).

PATIENCE PAYS OFF: Ben Magsig's team-best 40 walks this season have increased his career total to 107 and have earned him soul possession of seventh place on the EMU all-time list in that category. He is now just two walks behind Danny Schmitz (1974-77), who racked up 109 free passes. The record for walks in a career is held by EMU great Glenn Gulliver, who received 140 free passes from 1973-76.

STOLEN GOODS: Outfielder Brent Ohrman has recorded 16 stolen bases this season to run his career total to 48, good for 12th place all-time among EMU players. With a swiped bag Friday, April 6, against WMU, the senior surpassed former Eagle speedster Scott Willis (1984-87). Ohrman has eight stolen bases to go before catching Whitford Boyd's (1976-79) career mark of 56 for 11th spot.

A LITTLE MAC HISTORY: Eastern Michigan finished the 2011 campaign one game behind Central Michigan for the MAC West title at 16-11. The last time the Eagles won their division was in 2008, when they also claimed the MAC Tournament championship for the first time since 2003.
