Nine Gymnasts Receive MAC Academic Honors

The Eagles placed nine on the All-Academic honorable mention
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Mid-American Conference released its 2012 Academic All-MAC Women's Gymnastics team today, May 2, and Eastern Michigan University gymnastics was honored with nine gymnasts receiving honorable mention.
Brittany Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.-Kings Park), Shawna Ciaramella (Hamilton, Ont.-St. Mary CSS), Camille Cicchini (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.-Royal Palm Beach Community), Amanda Fuller (Hamilton, Ont.-St. Mary's), Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Paa.-Methacton), Ashley Quinton (Calgry, AB Canada-Bishop Menally), Tracie Tamashiro (Honolulu, Hawaii-Kalani), Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Institute) and Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) received honorable mention Academic All-MAC honors for the 2012 season.
Cassar, a 3.32 management student competed on the beam and floor for the Eagles, recording a second place tie on the floor exercise earning a career-high 9.750 versus Ursinus.
Ciaramella holds a 3.40 GPA and is majoring in elementary education. She recorded a first place finish on the beam earning a career high 9.775 in the season opener at Kent State and is ranked 35th in the MAC on the balance beam and 41st on the floor exercise.
Cicchini is a 3.79 nursing student who specialized on the bars for the Green and White. The Royal Palm Beach, Fla. native tied for fifth on the bars at the Rutgers Quad earning a career-high 9.725, and ranked 26th in the MAC on the bars.
Fuller, a 3.30 elementary education major earned the top spot on the vault at Ball State earning a career high 9.800. She also ranked 26th on the vault and 35th on the floor in the MAC.
Kurkmilis holds a 3.80 GPA and majors in exercise science. The junior earned runner up accolades on the vault tallying a 9.725 versus Ursinus and ranked 26th in the MAC on the vault.
Quinton, a 3.66 biochemistry major earned a third place tie on the vault posting a career-high 9.725 versus Western Michigan and ranked 39th in the MAC on the bars.
Tamashiro, a 3.5 psychology major specialized on the balance beam for the Eagles. The senior tied for seventh on the balance beam earning a 9.600 at the CMU Quad and ranked 37th in the MAC on the beam.
Senior Yourick holds a 3.79 GPA and is majoring in exercise science. She posted a first place finish for her performance on the floor earning a 9.825 at Ursinus College and ranked 23rd on the floor exercise and 34th on the bars in the MAC.
Wood holds a perfect 4.00 GPA and is majoring in biology. The senior Eagle recorded eight top-ten finishes on the uneven parallel bars and seven on the floor exercise and notched two first place ties on the bars, first versus Ursinus College, most recently at the annual Eagle Invitational. She ranked 21st on the bars and 27th on the floor exercise in the MAC.
