Buffalo Hands Eastern an 18-3 Loss on the Road

The Eagles mustered just three runs in the loss
BUFFALO, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team dropped a 18-3 decision Friday, May 11, to the University at Buffalo. The Bulls were able to pour on multiple runs in four separate innings to knock-off the Eagles.
Eastern Michigan (22-25, 12-10 MAC) fell after allowing 18 runs on 28 hits and two errors, while the Bulls (15-30, 8-13 MAC) allowed just three runs on seven hits, committing an error.
Neil Butara received the start for the Eagles and fell to 4-5 after being charged with the loss. Butara allowed eight runs, seven earned, on eight hits in just 2.2 innings of work for the Green and White. Brian Valente allowed seven runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings in relief. Taylor Dimmerling followed Valente with and surrendered two runs in 2.2. innings of work with six strikeouts, while Jeffrey Rousseau was touched for one run on three hits in an inning.
Cameron Copping earned the win and moved to 5-3 after allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings of work. Dan Ginader was the only reliever used by UB and he surrendered just two hits.
Offensively Matt Hitt led the way with a 2-for-3 performance and three RBI. The catcher blasted his sixth homer of the season, while Brent Ohrman went 2-for-4 on the day. Ben Magsig, Kyle Klein and Sam Ott added the other three Eagle hits.
The Bulls got on the board first by scoring three in the opening frame. Buffalo used an error, a passed ball, a balk, along with a pair of base knocks to take a 3-0 edge over the Eagles.
In the bottom half of the third UB added five more runs to extend its lead to 8-0. Matt Pollack led off the inning with a homer, but the Bulls continued to pound on the EMU starter, piling four more runs on six more hits.
The Eagles' offense scored a run in the top of the fourth when Tucker Rubino walked, and Ohrman followed with a single, leaving runners at first and second. Lee Longo proceeded to walk with an out, loading the bases for Hitt. Hitt singled scoring the first run of the game for the Green and White, making it 8-1 in favor of UB.
The Bulls did not deter in the bottom half of the fourth, adding four more runs. Buffalo used an EMU error to their favor, while scoring four runs on five hits, including a homer by Jason Kanzler. After four innings of play, the Bulls led 12-1.
The bottom of the fifth proved to be another struggle for EMU as they allowed four more runs. UB used six hits to score four runs, including three extra base hits. Pollack and Kanzler each doubled, while Tom Murphy blasted the Bulls' third long ball of the contest. Eastern trailed 16-1 after five innings of play.
The Eagles were able to return-fire with two runs in the sixth, making it 16-3. With one out, Ott singled and was later scored on a Hitt big fly, his sixth of the season.
The Bulls were able to add another run in the seventh to make it 17-3 when Ryan Tulloch scored on a double-play groundout.
UB again added one run in the eighth after Russ Carone doubled in Kanzler with the bases loaded to make the final tally 18-3.
The Eagles and Bulls battle again in Buffalo, N.Y. tomorrow, May 12. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
