Eagles return to the event for the first time since the 2005-06 campaign

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team heads to University Park, Pa. to participate in the Rutherford Intercollegiate, April 7-8, for the first time in nearly six years. The 14 team, 54-hole tournament will take place at the par 71, 7,202 yard Penn State Blue Course.

The tournament will begin on Saturday at 7:30 a.m. with a shotgun start and the second round following directly afterward. Sunday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. off the first tee.

The 14 teams in the field includes Army, Bowling Green, Canisius, Connecticut, Delaware, Eastern Michigan, George Mason, Indiana (Pa.), Miami (Ohio), Penn State, Rutgers, St. Bonaventure, Towson and William & Mary.

The last time the Eagles completed in the event was during the 2005-06 campaign, when EMU ran away with the 2006 Rutherford Intercollegiate championship after compiling a 54-hole total of 892 (300-295-297), April 22-23.      The Eagles overall score of 28-over-par 892 was nine strokes better than runner-up George Washington in the 15-team field. VCU finished in third place at 902 while Penn State and Miami (Ohio) tied for fourth place at 903.

Additionally, Korey Mahoney shot a two-over 74 to hold on for medalist honors with a one-under par 215 (68-73-74).
