Powers and Wolanin Named Academic All-MAC

Margina and Webb tabbed as Academic Honorable Mention selections
CLEVLAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team was honored Tuesday, April 17, when a pair of its members were named to the 2012 Women's Indoor Track and Field Academic All-MAC Team, the conference office announced. Meghan Powers and Kate Wolanin were the three named to the conference's academic team.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Powers, a therapeutic recreation major holding a 3.39 grade point average, was named second team All-MAC after her showing at the 2012 MAC Indoor Championships. She took second in the pole vault at the event, while setting a personal record with a 12-feet and 7.50-inch leap. The Livonia, Mich. native also able to place in the top-10 at five different meets, jumping over 11 feet at each of them.
Wolanin, a special education major who boasts a 3.59 GPA, was named first team All-MAC after she won the MAC Indoor Pentathlon championship by scoring 3,749 points, which was good for second all-time in EMU ranks. The Oxford, Mich. native was consistent throughout the season including placing in the top-five in multiple events nine times over the course of the indoor campaign.
ReJean Margina and Natalie Webb were each Academic All-MAC Honorable Mention selections. Both Margina and Webb are psychology majors, boasting a 3.21 and 3.39 GPAs, respectively.
