Eagles Head to South Bend to Face Notre Dame

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)– After completing a three-game sweep of Niagara University Sunday, March 18, at Oestrike Stadium, the Eastern Michigan University baseball team will trek to South Bend, Ind. to play one game against the University of Notre Dame Tuesday, March 20. First pitch is set for 5:35 p.m. at Frank Eck Stadium.
The Eagles (6-12) and the Fighting Irish (10-7) will clash for just the fourth time ever Tuesday, with Notre Dame holding a 1-2 series advantage. The two squads first met on April 30, 1992, with the Irish claiming a 6-1 victory. EMU's win in the series came on April 15, 2003, by a 5-3 score. That season, Notre Dame was ranked 13th in the nation.
Eastern Michigan is rolling offensively after scoring 46 runs on 45 hits against Niagara in the first home series of the year, March 16-18. In total, the Eagles went 46-for-111 (.414) in the series and scored the most runs in a single game (19) in Friday's win since May 13, 2011, when they defeated the University of Toledo, 18-2.
Since the team began its series against No. 7 Arizona, March 9-11, the offense has posted an overall batting average of .335. Lee Longo played a major role in bumping the team batting average .257, as the sophomore posted 10 hits in 14 at-bats against the Purple Eagles.
The Fighting Irish come into the game looking to end a two-game losing streak. Notre Dame is led at the plate by Joe Hudson (.386/.521/.579) and Trey Mancini (.344/.408/.547).
