Box Score.
OXFORD, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Lauren Wells picked up her third career complete game shutout this afternoon in the Eastern Michigan University softball team's 2-0 win over Loyola-Chicago in the final day of the Miami Invitational in Oxford, Ohio. With the win, the Eagles improve to 9-14 on the year, while Loyola falls to 4-10.
In seven innings of work, Wells (2-6) struck out three and limited the Ramblers to four hits in the contest.
Offensively, four Eagles accounted for the Green and White's six hits, with Katy Blaharski and Nellie Coquillard tallying two hits and an RBI apiece in the ballgame.
Blaharski's first hit came in the first inning of play after she outran a bunt to the catcher to reach first safely. McKenna Russ followed with a single of her own to place runners at first and second for Coquillard. The junior successfully plated Blaharski after driving a single down the left field line to give her squad a 1-0 lead.
A one-hit second inning would help the Green and White to earn its final run of the contest. Jessica Richards reached on a fielder's choice and advanced another 60 feet with her 15th stolen base of the season. With two outs, Blaharski would drive in Richards from second on a double to right-center field and give the Eagles a two run lead.
Through the next five innings of play, neither team managed to provide much of an offensive showing, allowing the Eagles to secure the 2-0 victory.
EMU will return to action on March 27 when the Eagles head to Fort Wayne, Ind. for a doubleheader with IPFW. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
