YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University women's gymnastics team found a great way to salute Head Coach Steve Wilce on his 30th year of coaching with a strong performance to go 3-0 on the night here Saturday, March 10, evening in the Convocation Center in the 9th Annual Eagle Invitational.
With a large group of former gymnasts in attendance, the Eagles turned in a team score of 193.850 to 192.250 for Air Force, 192.075 for Northern Illinois and 190.725 for Temple.
At the conclusion of the meet the current gymnasts gave a public tribute to Wilce and also presented him with a scrapebook for his outstanding leadership of the program.
The Eagles, now 10-8 on the year, were led by senior Kristen Kourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-Las Cruces) who tied NIU's Tanya Rachan for first in floor exercise at 9.85.
The Eagles earned a tie for first on the uneven parallel bars when senior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Institute) and Willette tied Air Force's Linaea Hance at 9.80.
On the vault, freshman Anna Willette (Pylesville, Md.-North Harford) tied for third with a 9.70 score and on beam, the trio of junior Brittany Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.-Kings Park), sophomore Kaylee Meyers (Saint Joseph, Mo.-Central) and Willette tied for second with 9.80 scores.
The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team is scheduled to close out the 2012 regular season with a MAC dual meet at Bowling Green Saturday, March 17. The starting time is 4 p.m. in Bowling Green, Ohio.
