Gymnastics Set to Host Broncos on Saturday

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team will host the Broncos of Western Michigan University, Feb. 11, at Bowen Field House. WMU will look to remain undefeated on the season while EMU is competing to capture that first Mid-American Conference win. Action is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

WMU ON TOP: Last season the Eagles fell to Western Michigan, 191.675-190.550, Feb. 4, at University Arena in Kalamazoo. Despite beating the Broncos as a team on the vault posting a 48.375 over WMU's 48.275, the Eagles were unable to capitalize on the other three events falling, 47.800-47.250 on the bars, 47.200-46.800 on the beam and 48.400-48.125 on the floor exercise . Stacie Wood had a strong showing finishing tied for second on the floor exercise earning a 9.675 and fifth on the uneven parallel bars posting a 9.575. Kristina Kurkmilis recorded a 9.725 on the vault just above Ashley Quinton who posted a 9.700, earning fourth and fifth place finishes respectively.

LAST TIME OUT: The Green and White came up short, Feb. 3, at the Michigan/Illinois Challenge at Bowen Field House. The Eagles posted a team score of 191.775 to finish fourth. EMU and CMU were unable to clinch the win, giving ISU and UIC the challenge victory. The state of Michigan scored a combined 383.975, compared to an Illinois 387.000. Freshman Jamie Radermacher led the Eagles on the vault posting a season high 9.775. Fellow freshman Anna Willette and sophomore Miranda Jarvis followed earning 9.750's to tie for eighth, a career high for Jarvis. Ashley Quinton had a solid showing on the uneven parallel bars tallying a 9.700, good for a seventh place tie while Camille Cicchini recorded a 9.675.

LAST HOME STAND OF THE MONTH: The Eagles finish out their home home strech taking on WMU. Eastern has had home-mat advantage for the past six meets, compiling a home record of 1-4 overall. After the WMU meet the Eagles return to Ypsilanti once more for the 2012 season hosting the annual Eagle Invitational, March 10.

UP NEXT: The Green and White head to Muncie, Ind. to take on the Cardinals of Ball State. Competition will begin at 7 p.m.
