EMU Stays on the Road for Duals at Nebraska

Eagles play Wyoming and Nebraska in weekend matches

EAGLES STAY ON THE ROAD FOR NEXT TWO DUALS: Head Coach Ryan Ray's Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team will travel to the State of Nebraska for its next two dual meets.
The Eagles are slated to matchup with Wyoming Friday, Feb. 3, at 5 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 4, the Green and White are scheduled to play the University of Nebraska in a 4:30 p.m. dual. Both Friday's and Saturday's action will be held indoors in the Nebraska Tennis Center.
The Eagles are fresh off a weekend split with Detroit and Michigan State. Friday, Jan. 27, EMU shut out Detroit, 7-0, indoors at the Franklin Racket Club in Southfield.
Sunday, Jan. 29, Eastern traveled to East Lansing and dropped a 5-2 decision to the Michigan State University Spartans in the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
Sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) turned in a 4-0 weekend in singles and doubles. Normally the No. 2 singles player, Mebuke moved up to No. 1 with the regular No. 1 player Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Tomas a Kempis) slowed down by the flu. Mebuke defeated UD's Elena Strakhova, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles Friday, Jan. 27, and came back and beat Michigan State's Nicole Herzog, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1 singles Sunday, Jan. 29.
In doubles play, Mebuke teamed with Westerink at No. 1 to beat Detroit's Amanda Cornwell and Julia Fernandes, 8-2, and Sunday she teamed with Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr to beat Michigan State's Herzog and Katarina Lingl, 8-4, also at the No. 1 doubles slot.
MEBUKE/WESTERINK NATIONALLY RANKED: The No. 1 EMU doubles team of sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilisi, Georgia) and senior Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands-Thomas A Kempis) is ranked 57th nationally and 7th in the Midwest Region in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I rankings released in the first week of January.
