Freshman Willette records a pair of first place honors

COLLEVEVILLE, Pa. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team was victorious, Feb. 29, dominating the Bears of Ursinus, 192.800-185.100.

With the win the Eagles advance to 5-7 (1-3 MAC), while the Bears fall to 4-16 overall.

Freshman Anna Willette (Pylesville, Md.-North Harford) led the Eagles on the vault earning the top spot, posting a 9.775. Junior Kristina Kurkmilis (Eagleville, Pa.-Methacton) and freshman Carrina Lo Bello (Oshawa, Canada-McLaughlin Collegiate) took runner up accolades tallying 9.725. Senior Amanda Fuller (Hamilton, Ont.-St Mary's) followed in fourth posting a 9.650.

Senior Stacie Wood (Brantford, Ont.-Brantford Collegiate Institute) and sophomore Kaylee Meyers (Saint Joseph, Mo.-Central) took first on the uneven parallel bars posting a 9.725. Willette notched a third place finish recording a 9.650, while senior Kristen Yourick (Albuquerque, N.M.-La Cueva) trailed in fourth place with a 9.600.

Willette captured another first place finish on the night for her performance on the balance beam recording a 9.650. Lo Bello and Meyers tied for second place posting a 9.625, a season high for Lo Bello. Freshman Paulina Miller (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada-Citadel High School) tallied a 9.600 giving her the fourth spot.

Yourick won top honors for her performance on the floor exercise recording a season-high 9.825.  Wood and junior Brittany Cassar (Kings Park, N.Y.-Kings Park) tied for second place earning a 9.750. Fuller posted a 9.600 recording a fourth place tie with Ursinus's Stephanie Schmidt.

Willette was the only Eagle to compete all-around coming in first. She recorded a pair of first place finishes along with a third place victory on the bars and a 10th place finish on the floor exercise.

The Eagles continue their East Coast tour when they travel to Ithaca, N.Y. to compete in the Cornell Quad. The Green and White will face Temple University, Rutgers University and host Cornell University.
