YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Head Women's Basketball Coach Tory Verdi wanted to make his first full recruiting class a memorable one, and that is exactly what he accomplished with the announcement that five new players will join the Eagles in 2013-14.

Verdi has announced that Ajai Meeks (Detroit, Mich.-Pershing-Providence-Schoolcraft), Haley Moore (Milford, Neb.-Milford), Janay Morton (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Osseo), Cha'Ron Sweeney (Toledo, Ohio-Rogers) and Phillis Webb (Brooklyn Park, Minn.-Osseo) have signed national letters of intent to join EMU next season.

Meeks, a 6-foot-3 forward, is a transfer from Schoolcraft College after initially staring her collegiate career at  Providence College. This season at Schoolcraft, she has averaged 16.7 points per game and is the No. 59-ranked player in junior college ranks.

An offensive force down low and defensively as a shotblocker, Meeks played in seven games for the Friars in 2011-12 including recording her first collegiate steal and blocked shot against No. 19/23 Delaware, Dec. 19, 2011.

Prior to college, she averaged a double-double throughout her high school career at John J. Pershing High School and was named All-Macomb first team and All-City Dream Team her senior year. Averaging 14 points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks her junior season, Meeks led her team to a regional championship title.

Moore, a 5-foot-8 guard, is a three-sport varsity athlete at Milford High School in Milford, Neb. Entering her senior year for the Eagles, she has led her team in points each season since her freshman year. Making 168 shots from beyond the arc throughout her high school career, she is currently inching closer to the 1,000-point club with 973 career points.

The Journal Star and Omaha World Herald named Moore Class C-1 second team All-State her junior year, while naming her Class C-1 All-State Honorable Mention in both her sophomore and freshman seasons.

Moore has been a vital member of successful basketball teams since fifth grade, playing for the Cornhusker Shooting Stars. This past summer, she helped the team finish with a record of 43-8 and a national ranking in the top 25 including a top-three Midwest ranking by ESPN.

Sweeney, a 5-foot-2 guard, is  the  No. 151-ranked high school player in the nation according to ESPN and is also ranked the No. 28 best guard in America.

The Toledo, Ohio native averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game her junior season at Roger High School. She led the Rams to a 21-5 record that resulted in a Ohio High School Athletic Association Division II Regional Semifinal appearance.

During her sophomore year, Sweeney helped her team win the City League  and make the District Finals for the first time in school history.

To round out the recruiting class, EMU will bring in two players that are very familiar with each other on the court. Morton and Webb led their Osseo High squad to a 25-6 record, a conference title, and a runner-up finish at the Minnesota State High School League Class AAAA State Tournament last season. This year, the dynamic duo hopes to bring a State Championship to the school as they enter their senior seasons.

During her junior campaign, Morton averaged 11.7 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game. The athletic combo-guard will look to help EMU's perimeter play as a three-point threat.

Webb was named to the MSHSL Class AAAA All-Tournament Team after teaming up with Morton to lead Osseo to a runner-up finish at the state tournament last year. The 5-foot-9 guard scored 12.4 points per game her junior season while grabbing 4.7 rebounds per game. Another three-sport athlete, she also earned All-Conference and Third Team All-Tournament her sophomore year playing basketball.

Ranked as the No. 158 high school player in the country, Webb comes from a family of intercollegiate athletes. Her father Phillip played at the University of Minnesota during the 1970s while her brother Miles played for the Golden Gophers in 2005.
