ALL-TIME VERSUS EASTERN ILLINOIS: The Eagles and the Panthers have met 28 times prior to Friday's matchup. The last time EMU and EIU squared off was back on Dec. 28, 2006. Eastern won that game, 63-51, at the Convocation Center.
EMU had four players in double figures, led by Jarrod Axon who scored a career and team-high 15 points hitting an impressive 5-of-8 three-pointers. Jesse Bunkley notched 13 points on 3-of-8 shooting from long range. Both players accounted for 21 of EMU's 36 second-half points. Justin Dobbins also poured in a career-best 12 points with Brandon Bowdry adding 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
ALL-TIME VERSUS IPFW: EMU and the Mastodons will meet for the third time when they tangle again, Saturday evening. The last time the Green and White and IPFW squared off was back on Dec. 31, 2006. The Eagles took that matchup, 62-61, at home.
A clutch three-point hoop at the buzzer by forward Craig Cashen gave the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team a 62-61 non-conference victory over IPFW at the Convocation Center. EMU had three players in double figures and was led by Jesse Bunkley who tied a career-high and team-high 19 points hitting an impressive 5-of-7 three pointers. James Matthews notched 12 points, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line, while Carlos Medlock added 10 points.
FIRST TIME SEEING TEXAS-PAN AMERICAN: The Sunday, Nov. 19, matchup with Texas-Pan American will be the first time that Eastern Michigan and the Broncs will faceoff in men's basketball. Last time an EMU team tangled with UTPA, the Eagles' volleyball team defeated the Broncs in a straight-set sweep at the 2011 Robert Morris Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic, Sept. 17.
HOT HAND OFF THE BENCH: Eastern senior, Derek Thompson, has embraced his role as a man off the bench by scoring 11.5 points per game to start the 2012-13 campaign. He has shot 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from beyond the arc in the first two games of the season, while the rest of the team is just 2-for-12.
STRUGGLING IN THE LANE: Despite having an average height of over 6-feet and 6-inches on the starting lineup, the Eagles struggled to get points in the paint against the Jacksonville State Gamecocks Sunday, Nov. 11. Eastern was out-scored, 34-20, by JSU in the paint, while they also allowed 16 points off of turnovers. Jacksonville State allowed just four points off turnovers en route to a 61-54 victory.
