AKRON, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – For the second day in a row, heavy frost delayed play as the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team concluded The Firestone Invitational in ninth place Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Eagles entered day two in a three-way tie for fourth before slipping back after posting a round of 14-over 302 for two-day score of 592.
Mid-American Conference foe Ball State University took home the team title with a 36-hole score of seven-under 569 (282-287) ot the 7,125-yard, par 72 course at the Firestone Country Club
Junior Brian Churchill-Smith (Oakville, Ontario, Canada-Oakville Trafalgar) notched another top 20 showing with a two-day tally of 146 (73-73) for 17th place. Senior Spencer Slade (Saline, Mich.-Saline-Savannah State) closed out the tournament with a 79 to finish in a tie for 23rd with a 148 (69-79).
Sophomore Alex Jones (Dewitt, Mich.-Dewitt) shaved three strokes off his opening round total to tie for 30th with a 149 (76-73) while freshman Brett White (Kentwood, Mich.-East Kentwood) was 46th with a 151 (73-78). Round out the lineup, senior Casey Olsen (Okemos, Mich.-Okemos-Oakland University) finished in a tie for 58th place with a 153 (75-78).
Competing as an individual, Josh Heinze (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) finished in 30th place with a 36-hole tally of 149 (75-74).
Next up for the Head Coach Bruce Cunningham and the Eagles is the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 22-23, in Gaithersburg, Md.
