NASHPORT, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team sits in a tie for fifth place and just seven shots behind leader, University of Akron, after one round of play at the Mid-American Conference Preview Tournament at Longaberger Golf Club Monday, Oct. 15.
The Eagles, led by Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada-Westside Secondary School), are even with Butler and Toledo with a one round team score of 321. Fairbairn is tied for 10th place after shooting a first round score of 78 on the par-72 course, which will play host to the MAC Championships, April 26-28, 2013.
Taming the course with an opening-round 71 was Hanna Ek of Akron, who leads the field by three strokes.
Eastern's Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada -Richmond Hill) shot a 79 for 15th place, while Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) finished with an 80 for 19th. Rounding out the lineup, Corey Crossan (London, Ontario, Canada-Mother Teresa Catholic Secondary School) and Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) shot an 84 and an 85, respectively.
Playing as an individual, Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) fired a 93 for 82nd place.
Play will conclude with the final 18 holes Tuesday, Oct. 16.
