The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team continues their 2011 campaign on Friday, Sept. 16, when they travel to Moon Township, Pa. to compete in the Robert Morris Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic. They open up the invitational with the Morgan State Bears on Sept. 16 in a 3 p.m. match. The Eagles follow up with a double-dip on Saturday, Sept. 17. EMU starts with the Texas-Pan American Broncs at 10 a.m. and finish with the host Robert Morris in a 5 p.m. match with the Colonials.

EAGLES HOT IN FIRST 11: The Eastrn Michigan University women's volleyball team has been dominant to start the season going 9-2. EMU dropped their opening match to the host of the 2011 Shamrock Invitational at the University of Notre Dame, and fell to Brigham Young University in the Utah Invitational for their only losses of the 2011 campaign.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE FIELD AT THE HOLIDAY INN CLASSIC: The Eagles open up Robert Morris Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic with the Morgan State Bears of the Mid-Eastern Conference. The Bears and the Eagles have never faced off and the Eagles look to start the series with a victory at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. Eastern moves on to a double-header on Saturday, first facing Texas-Pan American Broncs at 10 a.m. EMU finishes the tournament with host, Robert Morris. The Eagles have taken on the Colonials three times before and lead the series 2-1. Eastern looks to advance to 3-1 in their fourth ever meeting at 5 p.m. 

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS: The Eagles take on three teams that have struggled so far this season. Combined the three opponents are 4-27 on the season. The Eagles are 9-2 this year, winning 29 of their 41 sets played this season. In total, this week's opponents have won just 22 of their 106 sets.

Morgan State is the first of Eastern's opponents this week. The Bears are just 2-8 on the season and have won  just eight sets on the year. Their attack percentage is just .121 (323-199-1023). The Bears were 6-19 in 2010. The Eagles and Bears face-off at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16.

Next up for EMU are the Broncs from Texas-Pan American. The Broncs are 1-10 on the season, winning just five of 35 sets on the year. UTPA has struggled hitting this season, as they have a .037 attack percentage (298-252-1253) on the year. The Broncs were 9-23 in 2010. They square-off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The host of the invitational are the Robert Morris Colonials, and the Eagles final match of the weekend. The match is set for 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17. The Colonials are 1-9 on the year and have dropped 29 of their 38 sets this year.  RMU is hitting just a .155 percentage (444-239-1324), and their only win came at a neutral site, as they are 0-1 on the year at home.

ALMOST TO THE MAC: The Green and White has enjoyed great success over the 2011 season in non-conference matches, going 9-2. The Eagles compete in just three more matches at the 2011 Robert Morris Hampton Inn Volleyball Classic before traveling to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on their first Mid-American Conference opponent in Western Michigan.

EAGLES HONORED IN SALT LAKE CITY: The Eastern Michigan University women's volleyball team had two players named to the 2011 Utah Invitational All-Tournament team Saturday, Sept. 10. Ashley Mason and Haley Stein were honored for their play as the Eagles went 2-1 in the tournament.

Mason appeared in all 12 sets for Eastern throughout the invitational. She recorded a season-high 54 assists in the opening win against the host, University of Utah. In total, Mason had 111 assists in the tournament and averaged 9.25 assists per set. She made her offensive presence known by picking up 13 kills from the setter position, averaging over one kill per set. On the year, Mason averages 10.20 assists per set and 3.05 digs per set.

Stein played in all 12 sets during the tournament. She led the Eagles in digs with 56, while averaging 4.67 digs per set. For the 2011 campaign, Stein is leading EMU with 218 digs, good for 5.32 per set.

Stein averaged 5.73 digs per set in 2010 when she set an Eastern Michigan single season record 757 digs.

Eastern hits the court again Friday, Sept. 16, when it faces off with Morgan State in the Robert Morris Holiday Inn Classic. First serve is set for 3 p.m. at the Charles L. Sewall Center in Moon Township, Pa.

STEIN DIGGING HER WAY INTO THE EMU RECORD BOOKS: Libero Haley Stein was selected to the 2010 First-Team All Mid-American Conference volleyball team announced Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010.

Stein set a single season record for digs in 2010 by picking up 757. Stein is also on her way to setting a career record in digs. At third on the career digs list, with 1,731 career digs, the Carleton, Mich. native is third all-time for EMU behind Ashley Cudney (2,198) and Jennifer Nighswander (1,897).  She was also named All-MAC first team in last season's campaign after leading the MAC in digs. Stein ranked fifth nationally in digs per set with 5.73. She was also second nationally with her 757 digs. Stein also set a school-record for digs in a match when  she had 55 on Oct. 8 against Western Michigan University.

The Carleton, Mich. native is also a two-time Academic All-MAC selection. Being named to those teams in 2009 and 2010.

MASON MAKING HER MARK: In her fourth year setting for the Eagles, Ashley Mason has moved to third all-time in assists in her career with 4,082 as an Eagle. She trails just Kate Sulewski (5,474) and Sherry Anderson (4,513).  Mason was fourth in the MAC in assists, averaging 10.72 per game which was good for 47th in NCAA Division I during the 2010 campaign.

A first-time All-MAC selection, Mason was a second team All-MAC selection following the 2010 season.

Also capturing All-MAC second team honors were: Akron's Tina Dimitrijevs, BSU's Whitney Heeres and Brittany McGinnis, Buffalo's Abby Niekamp, CMU's Lauren Krupsky, Kent State's Liva Brivule and Meredith Paskert, NIU's Maddie Hughes, Ohio's Michelle Jantsch, Toledo's Kassie Kadera and WMU's Allyson Doyle.

NEAR THE TOP OF THE MAC IN....: Rachel Iaquaniello is second in the Mid-American Conference kills per set with 4.18, trailing only Lauren Wicinski of Northern Illinois University with 5.20 kills per set.

Ashley Mason is fourth in the conference in assists per set at 10.20 assists per set this season.

Haley Stein ranks second in the MAC with 5.32 digs per set this season. She is trailing only Lena Oliver of Western Michigan.

As a team, the Eagles are second in the conference in digs,  with 18.66 digs per set this season. The Eagles trail just Western Michigan (19.72).
