ANN ARBOR Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University football team puts its unblemished record on the line Saturday, Sept. 17, with its shortest road trip of the year to face off against the University of Michigan in the “Battle of Washtenaw County.” Game time is scheduled for 12:01 p.m. at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich. The contest will be shown on the Big Ten Network (BTN) with Tom Hart providing the play-by-play and Derek Rackley serving as the analyst. WEMU (89.1 FM) will provide audio coverage of the game with Matt Shepard and Andrew Wellock calling the action on the field.

STRIVING FOR A 3-0 START: Eastern Michigan will look for its first 3-0 start to a campaign since the 1989 season, when the then-Hurons downed Kent State University, Sept. 2, Youngstown State University, Sept. 9, and Ohio University, Sept. 16. That season EMU posted a 5-0-1 record through its first six games en route to a 7-3-1 finish.

EMU VS. MICHIGAN: Michigan and Eastern Michigan are meeting for the 10th time and U-M holds a 9-0 advantage in the series. The series started in 1896 with Michigan recording an 18-0 shutout. The last time the two squads met was Sept. 19, 2009 when Michigan turned in a 45-17 victory over EMU.

SHORT ROAD TRIP (ACCORDING TO GOOGLE MAPS): The Eagles make their shortest road trip of the season Saturday, Sept. 17, when they travel seven miles west to face the University of Michigan Wolverines. Rynearson Stadium and Michigan Stadium are just seven miles apart and are both located in Washtenaw County.

FIRST OF TWO STRAIGHT BIG TEN CONTESTS: EMU begins a two-game stretch against Big Ten Conference opponents when the Eagles travel just seven miles down Washtenaw Avenue Saturday, Sept. 17, for a noon game against Michigan. On Sept. 24, the Eagles head to University Park, Pa. to take on Penn State University at Beaver Stadium.

STOPPING THE RUSH: The EMU defense turned in a record-setting performance as the Eagles captured a 14-7 victory against Alabama State, Sept. 10. The Green and White held the Hornets to minus-13 yards rushing in the contest to break the EMU record for fewest rushing yards allowed in a contest. The Eagles sacked two ASU quarterbacks eight times for a total of 61 yards. Eastern edged the previous mark of 18 yards allowed at John Carroll, Oct. 15, 1966.

TOP TEAM IN THE MAC: Just two weeks in and the Eagles lead the Mid-American Conference in rushing (331.0 ypg) and total defense (212.0 ypg). EMU also leads the league in rushing defense (41.5 ypg) and sacks (5.0 spg). Javonti Greene resides in the second spot for rushing yards (133.0 ypg), as Brad Ohrman is tied for the MAC lead in sacks (1.50 spg).

UNDER 100 = WIN: The Eagles are 4-0 all-time under Ron English when they allow under 100 yards rushing in the game.

BRINGING THE BLITZ: Eastern Michigan's defense recorded eight quarterback sacks and a total of 13 tackles-for-loss versus Alabama State, Sept. 10, for a loss of 69 yards. The eight sacks by the Eagles are the most in recent memory, surpassing the seven quarterback-takedowns notched by the Green and White against the University of Akron, Sept. 25, 1999.

FIRST BACK-TO-BACK CONTESTS WITH TWO 100-YARD RUSHERS: Redshirt junior Dominique Sherrer and sophomore Javonti Greene both ran for more than 100 yards in consecutive weekends in the victories over Howard, Sept. 4, and Alabama State, Sept. 10. The feat marked the first time in program history that it had been accomplished in back-to-back contests, and just the seventh time overall that a pair of EMU running backs had both surpassed 100 yards on the ground in the same game.

This marks English's first career MAC weekly award. English posted a team-best 10 tackles against Alabama State, Sept. 10, including 3.5 tackles for a loss of six yards.

HITTING THE CENTURY MARK: Redshirt junior Dominique Sherrer and sophomore Javonti Greene both ran for more than 100 yards in consecutive weekends in the victories over Howard, Sept. 4, and Alabama State, Sept. 10. The feat marked the fourth time since the 2005 campaign that a pair of EMU running backs had both surpassed 100 yards on the ground in the same game.

GILLETT MAKES A MOVE UPWARDS: Junior quarterback Alex Gillett has played in 23 games for the Eagles, earning 17 starts, but has made significant advancement in several EMU career categories. Gillett has rushed 295 times for 1,400 yards and eight touchdowns and has completed 214-of-406 passes for 2,572 yards and 19 touchdowns in those 23 games. He has recorded 701 total offensive plays (rush and pass) for 3,972 total offensive yards. He is currently ranked sixth all-time in total offensive yards, just the 14th player in school history to reach 3,000. His 214 career completions is good for the 12th spot while his 2,572 career passing yards is 11th in history and his 19 career touchdown passes is ninth.

KARUTZ PINS THE HORNETS BACK: Junior Jay Karutz punted seven times for an average of 33.3 yards per kick against Alabama State, Sept. 10. Five of those punts finished inside the 20-yard line, with his long of the day traveling 48 yards. This proved extremely effective in keeping the opposition off the scoreboard, as the Hornets' average starting field position in the fourth quarter was their own 13-yard line.

GREENE HAS A SOLID DAY AGAINST ALABAMA STATE: Sophomore Javonti Greene rushed for 146 yards on a career-best carries against Alabama State, Sept. 10. The 146 yards on the ground marked the third 100-yard game of his career, including back-to-back weekends in which he has topped the century mark. The West Palm, Fla. Native also turned in a 32-yard rush late in the third quarter, as the Eagles posted 336 total yards rushing as a team.

PENN STATE GAME TIME SET FOR NOON: EMU's final non-conference game of the regular season at Penn State University, Sept. 24, has been set for a noon kickoff at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pa.. The game will air on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. The ESPN network carrying the game will be announced no later than Sunday, Sept. 18.
