EMU Bounces Back with Straight Set Win Over UC-Riverside

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's volleyball team bounced back from just their second loss of the 2011 campaign to top the Highlanders of UC-Riverside on Saturday evening. The Eagles took Riverside in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-17).
Eastern Michigan moved to 9-2 on the season after defeating the Highlanders, while UC-Riverside fell to 1-9 on the year.
Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) paced the Eagles offense with 13 kills and a .300 attack percentage (13-4-30) in the victory. Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) added six kills for Eastern, while Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor) and Megan Crawshaw (Mattawan, Mich.-Mattawan) chipped-in with five kills each. Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) had a game high 32 assists for Eastern.
EMU used four kills from Baker, Iaquaniello, and Short to take a 1-0 lead as the Eagles topped UC-Riverside 25-20 in the first frame. Mason started off with 13 assists to open up the match.
Eastern made it 2-0 quickly as they took the second set 25-21. Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) led the offense with four kills in the set, while the Eagles used eight total blocks to take their two-set lead.
Iaquaniello dominated the final frame with a .429 attack percentage (7-1-14) to help Eastern take the match with a 25-17 tally. Mason added 10 assists in the final frame, while adding five digs from the setter position.
Eastern has six days off until they take the court again. They travel to Moon Township, Pa. to compete in the Robert Morris Holiday Inn Volleyball Classic, Sept. 16-17. The Eagles open the tournament with Morgan State at 3 p.m.
