Eight Eagles Compete for Women's T&F at U-M

Dejaa Shearer recorded Eagles' best finish on the day

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – A handful of student-athletes from the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team competed today, May 6, in Ann Arbor, Mich., at the Len Paddock Invitational.

In the 400-meter hurdles, Dejaa Shearer finished third by running a time of 1:03.70. Two other Eagles crossed the line shortly thereafter as Samantha Sharper finished in 1:04.20 for fourth place, and Karen Gallardo's time of 1:07.18

In the 1,500-meter run, Morgan Churchwell also placed fourth, running a time of 4:37.88, while Cassie Coffman was sixth with a time of 4:44.91. Angela Scarber's hammer throw of 141-02 was good for the 11th-best throw on the day.

Also in the field, Meghan Powers cleared a height of 11-05.75 in the pole vault, while Jessica Hemingway, who has a top-10 height in the nation with her USA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships-qualifying mark, registered a “no height” in the event.

The Eagles will compete Saturday, May 7, to wrap up the Len Paddock Invite.
