Fuller wraps up decathlon; Meyer competes in shot put

Day One & Two Results

DEKALB, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) - Tornado warnings caused a six-hour delay in competition on day two of the 2011 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in DeKalb, Ill. as some events were moved indoors and makeshift lighting was put in place in order to wrap up the events of the season-ending competition.

After two days, the Eagles currently sit in sixth place with 18 total points, which were tallied when Terefe Ejigu and Austin Hendrix finished 1-2 in the 10,000-meter run on day one. Akron sits atop the leaderboard with 46 points, while Central Michigan (27 points)and Kent State (23 points) are in second and third place, respectively. Buffalo is fifth with 22 points and Miami is just ahead of EMU with 20 points.

Tim Fuller completed the last two events of the decathlon as he placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:04.51. As per the javelin throw, darkness became a key element after the long delay. The NCAA requires that the decathlon be completed in two days, and because the stadium is not equipped with lighting, the javelin throw was forced to be finished with cars and trucks parked around the throwing field to illuminate the athlete's path and to get accurate distances. Fuller finished 11th in that event with a javelin throw of 114-02.

Andrew Meyer was the other Eagle who competed Friday as he finished with a shot put throw of 48-10.00 before fouling off his final throw in the event. His throw failed to register points as it was an 11th-place distance.

EMU will get back to action bright and early at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 14, for the final day of the Championships. Eastern has its strongest events ahead as Brycen Spratling, Vanier Joseph, Donald Scott, Clint Allen (all of whom hold some of the conference's top times in various events) and a host of other Eagles take to the track and field.
