YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com)
— The Eastern Michigan University softball team and the Central Michigan University Chippewas will meet for the 92nd time in program history this weekend when the Eagles travel to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. for single games slated for Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, May 1.

LAST TIME OUT:
The Eastern Michigan University softball team hit the road last weekend to visit Akron University and Ohio University for Mid-American Conference action.

Against the Zips, a three-run, two-out, bases-clearing double off the bat of sophomore Nellie Coquillard (Niles, Mich.-Niles) lifted the Eastern Michigan University softball team from a one-run deficit to take a 6-4 victory.

Jenna Ignowski (Niles, Mich.-Niles)
got the start for the Green and White and went three hitless innings, but a four-run fifth led the Eagles to call in righty hurler Jaclyn Caro (Chino, Calif.-St. Lucy's Priory). The senior went three innings while striking out two and gave up just one hit to pick up the win and improve to 2-5 on the year.

Game two of the April 22 doubleheader was cancelled due to heavy rain in the Akron, Ohio area, so the Eagles loaded the buses and trekked over to Athens, Ohio to take on the Bobcats of Ohio University.

On Saturday, the Eagles made a triumphant comeback in the sixth inning against Ohio, but heavy rain and lightning in the Athens, Ohio area washed away the Eagles' four-run sixth inning to revert the game's score to the end of the fifth, giving the Bobcats the 3-1 game one victory.

Lauren Wells (Lowell, Ind.-Lowell)
was dealt the loss and dropped to 7-3 on the season. The lefty went 4.1 innings, giving up two earned runs while striking out two.

Jessica Richards (Canton, Ohio-Jackson) led the Eagles with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate while swiping her 15th stolen base of the season. McKenna Russ (North Canton, Ohio-Hoover) tallied two hits in the contest, including her second triple of the season, while scoring the lone run for the Green and White.

Game two against the Bobcats was scheduled for Sunday afternoon, however the heavy rainfall that fell throughout the night created poor playing conditions, resulting in the decision to cancel the game between the two squads.

SCOUTING THE CHIPPEWAS
: EMU and the Central Michigan University Chippewas will meet for the 92nd time in program history this weekend when the Eagles travel to Mt. Pleasant, Mich. for single games slated for Saturday, April 1, and Sunday, May 1.

The Green and White hold a 28-62-1 record overall against the Chips, with their last meeting dating back to April 24, 2010, where CMU defeated the Eagles, 7-1 at Varsity Field.

Currently, the Chippewas sit in fifth in the Mid-American Conference West Division at 9-7 in conference play. They have captured wins against Western Michigan, Toledo, Bowling Green, Miami, Ball State, and Ohio.

As a team, Central Michigan owns a .295 clip, while the pitching staff has maintained a 2.69 earned run average through 41 games this season.

Molly Coldren has been a consistant presence at the plate for CMU, hitting .392 through 40 games this season after collecting 38 hits, including three doubles, a triple, and knocking in 29 RBI. Macy Merchant provides speed on the base paths for the Chippewas, successfully swiping 21 bases in 27 attempts this season to lead the MAC in that catagory.

In the circle, Kara Dornbos has seen the most action with 114.2 innings pitched. She holds a 2.26 ERA with an opponent batting average of .233. Kari Seddon has also contributed with a 2.40 ERA in 96.1 innings on the mound, striking out 97 while holding opposing hitters to a .194 average.

RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY!: Mother Nature has not been kind to the Eagles so far this season, as rainy weather has threatened a number of games throughout the 2011 campagin and has cancelled nine contests this year, four of which were in the past week.

Meetings against Loyola-Chicago (March 18), Notre Dame (March 23, doubleheader), Akron (April 22), Ohio (April 24) and Cleveland State twice (April 6 and April 26, doubleheader) have all been called due to unfavorable weather conditions.

The rain was especially inconvenient on April 23 at Ohio, when the weather erased a four-hit, four-run top of the sixth, reverting the score to the completion of the fifth inning to issue the Green and White a 3-1 loss to the Bobcats.

A LOOK AHEAD
: After this weekend's games at Central Michigan University, the Eastern Michigan University softball team will head to Ann Arbor, Mich. and Lansing, Mich. to take on both Michigan and Michigan State for a pair of mid-week match-ups. After facing a duo of BigTen opponents, the Eagles will return to the friendly confines of Varsity Field May 6-8 to host Buffalo and Kent State to wrap up the regular season.

Friday's contest is slated for a doubleheader with the Bulls at 1 p.m., and will feature a familiar face from the Buffalo coaching staff. UB's Head Coach, Jennifer Teague, will return to EMU where she spent the 2006-08 seasons as the assistant coach and pitching coach for the Eagles.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Green and White will welcome Kent State University to close out Mid-American Conference and regular season play. Saturday's game will honor past players as part of the team's Alumni Day festivites and will also feature its third annual Knock Cancer Out of the Park Event. A home run derby and silent auctions will be held as part of the day's events.

Sunday's 1 p.m. contest with the Golden Flashes will honor the Eagles' four seniors on this year's roster. Jaclyn Caro, Lauren Delapaz (Plymouth, Mich.-Canton), Jamie Melchert (Scottville, Mich.-Mason County Central/Muskegon C.C.), and Stacie Skodinski (South Bend, Ind.-Washington) will be honored prior to first pitch.

CLUTCH COQUILLARD: Sophomore Nellie Coquillard's statistics with runners on base have been nothing short of impressive this season, successfully advancing runners in 61 percent of her at bats (31-of-51 opporunities). The Niles, Mich. native also boasts impressive numbers when there are runners in scoring position with a .417 (15-of-36) average, and also hits .455 with a runner on third and less than two outs.

Coquillard has also shown success with two-out at bats, as the sophomore has hit for a .438 clip in that situation. With the bases loaded, Coquillard has hit a perfect 3-for-3, including her first career grand slam against Detroit on March 29. In addition to her clutch hitting with runners on, the sophomore has also been a difficult hitter to take down with strikes and has only fallen victim to the strikeout seven times in 89 at bats.

RICHARDS ON THE RUN: Jessica Richards currently leads the Eagles with 15 stolen bases in 16 attempts this season. The junior is on pace to swipe 22 on the year to bring her career number to 42. The 22 season stolen bases would put her in sixth all-time in the EMU individual season record books, while 42 would be fifth-best for career stolen bases.

FIRST TO STRIKE
: Throughout the 2011 campaign, the Eastern Michigan University softball team has posted impressive numbers in the win column when scoring before its opponents.

The Eagles have posted a 20-4 mark when scoring first in games, including a 12-3 record when they score in the first inning.

After leading through four innings, the Green and White have managed a 17-1 record, and after holding a lead through five, the Eagles are 13-1. Even more impressive is EMU's ability to hold on through late innings, as the Eagles are a perfect 13-0 when owning the lead after the sixth.

WE'RE GOING STREAKING: Several members of the EMU softball team have strung together lengthy hitting streaks throughout the season.

Jessica Richards and Kaylee Tolliver (Amanda, Ohio-Clearcreek) lead the squad with nine-game hit streaks this season. Richards' recorded hits in a span that lasted from March 29 through April 9, during which she accumulated a batting average of .471 (16-of-34). Tolliver's nine-game streak lasted from March 26 until April 9, connecting on 13 hits in 22 at bats for a .591 clip during that period.

Stacie Skodinski also strung together an impressive eight-game hit streak from March 20 through April 1. The senior recorded a .583 batting average during that time, including five multi-hit games. Skodinski also holds the team's longest streak of consecutive games for a batter to reach base safely. The South Bend, Ind. native did so for 14-straight games.

McKenna Russ put together an impressive streak of her own, registering her 11th hit against Northern Illinois on April 1 in as many plate appearances to tie the third best streak in the NCAA Division I record books for consecutive hits.

IN THE RANKS: The Eastern Michigan University softball team is currently sitting in third for overall batting average in the Mid-American Conference (.312) and second in pitching (2.60 ERA). The Green and White are also second in slugging percentage (.467) and tied for first in triples (eight). The Eagles' pitching staff has the second-best opposing batting average (.233), the fourth-highest amount of strike outs (216), and lead the conference in strokeouts per seven innings (6.85). EMU's hurlers have allowed the least amount of hits with 195, and the fewest earned runs allowed with 82 on the season.

In conference-only games, the Eagles are tied for third in batting average (.332) and second in pitching (2.44 ERA). EMU's 123 hits in MAC games ranks the third in the conference, while the Eagles' 26 doubles is good for second place and their seven triples paces the conference.
