HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team stands in a tie for second place with Missouri State University after the first day of competition at the UALR Women's Golf Classic Monday, March 28, here at the Diamante Country Club. The Eagles posted team rounds of 306 and 302 to total 608 for the first two rounds.
Sophomore Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) led the way for the Green and White, firing rounds of 70 and 79 to finish with a 149 and put herself in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings. She is currently three strokes behind leader Laura Stempfle of Florida International University, who opened with a two-over par 146.
Senior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) shot a 153 (77-76) and freshman Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) shot a 154 (76-78). Redshirt freshman Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) and Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) completed the Eagles' lineup with a 156 and a 161, respectively.
Arkansas State University leads the team race with a score of 606 (301-305). EMU and MSU sits two strokes back in second place, and Oral Roberts University is three strokes back in fourth place.
Play will conclude with the final 18 holes Tuesday, March 29, at Diamante Country Club.
