LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's golf team continues to rewrite the program's record book as the Eagles finished in fourth place at the Lumberjack Shootout at Wigwam, after firing a third round 294 Wednesday, March 16, at the Wigwam Golf Course. Eastern's 54-hole score of 888 (298-296-294) equals the school record for a three-round tournament set three seasons ago at the Shootout at the Legends, Oct. 8-9, 2007.
The Eagles, ranked No.124 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, placed three golfers in the field's top 15, as the Green and White picked up their second consecutive top five finish of the season. Additionally, the Eagles' final round 294 was tied for the lowest 18-hole cumulative score of the season.
Host Northern Arizona University shot an 871 (287-292-292) to win the 14-team event by 14 strokes over Florida International University and Indiana University, who tied for second place with an 885. Tarleston State's Carla Cooper and Northern Arizona's Bethany Leclair shared medalist honors for a three-day total of one-under 215.
Senior Darby Peters (Lake Orion, Mich.-Lake Orion) picked up her 16th career top 10 finish with a four-over 220 (74-74-72) in a tie for ninth place. Her three-round total is tied for the ninth lowest 54-hole mark in the program's history, and the best for any EMU student-athlete during the 2010-11 campaign.
Sophomore Sarah Johnson (Wixom, Mich.-Walled Lake Central) followed with a career-low 222 (74-73-75) in 13th place, followed by senior Robyn Scott (Auckland, New Zealand-Westlake Girls-Texas Tech Univ.) and redshirt freshman Alyssa Kwon (Richmond Hills, Ontario-Richmond Hills) in a tie for 14th at 223.
Freshman Usanee Laopattananont (Bangplee, Thailand-Thai Christian School) added 51st place tie with a score of 235 (78-77-80), while sophomore Meredith Fairbairn (Orangeville, Ontario-Westside Secondary School) was 66th with a 238 (79-77-82).
