Sophomore hurdler clocks 7.89 in 60m hurdles
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University sophomore standout Vanier Joseph captured 16th-place at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend at College Station, Texas, as he was the lone EMU representative to compete at the championships.
After capturing his third conseutive Mid-American Conference hurdles title just two weeks prior, Joseph's time of 7.75 had him seeded at the No. 11 spot, tied with many other athletes from across the nation.
In the preliminaries of the 60-hurdles, Joseph's time of 7.89 wasn't fast enough as only the top eight times advanced to the final round, but the second-year runner still placed 16th overall with his performance.
Joseph has pieced together an impressive resume for himself in just the year-and-a-half in which he has donned the Green and White (and yellow) for Eastern Michigan. During his freshman campaign, Joseph swept the Indoor and Outdoor MAC Championships, garnering first place in 60-meter and 110-meter hurdles, respectively. He also added another MAC Title to his resume during the outdoor championships when he helped the 4x100-meter team win its race. He didn't stop there, also winning the 60-meter crown during his sophomore season, just weeks ago at the 2011 Indoor MAC Championships. In total, Joseph has finished first in 18 collegiate races (including prelims).
Joseph's quest for more MAC gold and another shot at a national championship will continue April 2, when the team takes on two MAC opponents in Central Michigan University and the University at Buffalo.
