Zavislak Earns MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University men's swimmer Matt Zavislak (Commerce Twp., Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week by the MAC office today, Feb. 4. He was also named MAC Swimmer of the Week on Wednesday, Feb. 2. Both are a first for the Michigan native.
Zavislak, a 3.16 Electronic Media and Film Studies Major, took first place in five different events over the weekend to help the Eagles to wins against both Xavier University and Miami University. Against Xavier, the junior was the first to finish the 50 free in 21.24, the eighth best time in the Mid-American Conference. He also anchored the winning 200 Medley Relay that finished in 1:32.53. Against Miami, he took first in the 100 and 200 freestyle events. His 200 time of 1:42.06 is fifth best in the conference. Zavislak again helped the 200 Medley Relay to a 1:32.20, first place finish to represent the third best time in the MAC.
Zavislak and the Eagles will return to action this evening at Ohio State University. The non-concerfence dual-meet is slated for a 5 p.m. start.
