The Eagles travel to Clinton, S.C. for a two-game set March 1-2, against the Blue Hose

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team is riding consecutive wins for the first time this season and looks to make it three in a row starting tomorrow when it begins a two-game set against Presbyterian College March 1-2, in Clinton, S.C.

Eagle Recap
The Green and White began the week with a mid-week game at Kentucky. Down 3-0 in the seventh, Ben Magsig connected on his first home run of the season, sending a two-run shot to right to bring the Eagles to within a run. However, the Wildcats would respond in the next half-inning to extend the lead back to three which is how it ended.

EMU departed Lexington, Ky. for Cookeville, Tenn. for a three-game set against the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the fourth until TTU scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-1 game one victory.

The Eagles (3-4) then took the final two games of their series as sophomore Steve Weber pitched the Green and White to a 5-1 win Saturday and Brent Ohrman used a 3-for-5 day at the plate to push EMU past TTU, 9-8, in the finale on Sunday.

Weber went seven innings in his strongest outing of the season, allowing just a run on five hits while striking out six and walking one. After giving up a second inning run, Weber sat down 16 of the next 18 batters including the final six he faced en route to the dominating victory.

The Eagles spotted Weber three runs in the second inning behind a pair of RBI hits by Matt Hitt and Ken Battiston and combined with a Robert Wendzicki score on a wild pitch. It was all Weber needed in leading EMU to the 5-1 win.

In the finale, Corey Chaffins came on in relief of Neil Butara and put together 6.1 innings of solid work out of the pen, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking just one. The two runs he allowed, though, tied the game at 7-7 in the ninth and sent the game to extras.

Ohrman delivered his first blow with a leadoff triple to start the 10th and would score on the next play to give the Eagles a brief 8-7 lead. After TTU tied it again in the 10th, Ohrman's number was called in the 11th and he came through again, this time singling home a man on third with one out to give the Eagles a lead they would not relinquish. He finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored to lead EMU to the series win.

Scouting the Blue Hose
Presbyterian College swept its first series of the season by taking all three games from Navy at home, outscoring the Midshipmen 34-17 on opening weekend. The Blue Hose made it four in a row with a 6-1 win over Davidson Feb. 22.

Since then, PC has dropped consecutive games to USC-Upstate, Wofford and Gardner-Webb by a combined score of 26-10. They return home to host EMU, where they are 4-0 this season.

PC is led by Brad Zebedis at the plate, who is batting .393 (11-for-28) with a homerun, nine RBI and seven runs scored. Andrew Williams sits right behind for the team lead with a .387 (12-for-31) average with three extra-base hits, including two triples, and six runs scored.

On the mound, Chandler Knox (1-0) sports a 2.89 ERA over 9.1 innings this season, making one start over four appearances. He has struck out seven while walking four and has one save to his credit this season.

Richardson also appeared in the team's loss to Gardner-Webb Sunday, where he threw just an inning and a third and surrendered a hit. Wednesday will be his first start of the season.
