REGULAR SEASON FINALE:
Eastern Michigan embarks on its final regular season road trip as it takes on Central Michigan, ranked 15 in this week's Intermat rankings, and Ohio to close out the 2010-11 campaign.
EMU, still seeking its first conference win of the season, will have two more chances against the Chippewas and Bobcats. The Eagles will battle CMU, Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. in Mount Pleasant before heading to Athens, Ohio to take on OU Sunday, Feb. 20, at 2 p.m.

EAGLE UPDATE: The Eagles suffered its third consecutive defeat last time out, a 30-3 loss to Kent State at Bowen Field House Sunday, Feb. 13. Despite the wide margin of victory for the Golden Flashes, EMU was in contention in eight of the 10 matches.
“Kent State is ranked 15th in the country for good reason,” Head Coach Derek DelPorto said. “They're very solid from 125-HWT and have two returning All-Americans in their starting line-up. They won 9 of 10 matches, but the positive is that we were in 8 of the 9 we lost. I firmly believe we could have won any of those matches and hope to turn that around at the MAC Tournament in March.”
Sophomore 174-pounder, Chris Eggert, was the lone Eagle to record a victory as he defeated Sli Bostelman, 2-0.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
Central Michigan enters competition this Thursday with a 2-1 MAC ledger, and seeking a share of the conference title should it win its final two matches. The Chippewas feature four wrestlers ranked in the top-17 nationally. Jarod Trice comes in as the second ranked heavyweight in the country while 174-pounder Ben Bennett is ranked seventh. Also ranked for CMU is 133-pounder Scotti Sentes (11th) and 165-pounder Mike Miller (17th).
Meanwhile, Ohio, also with only one conference loss on the campaign, is also seeking a share of the MAC title with a win over the Eagles Sunday. The Bobcats have three wrestlers currently ranked and based on that, are the 41st-best team in the nation according to Intermat. OU's Germane Lindsey comes in ranked No. 20 at 141, while Nick Purdue (174) and Erik Schuth (197) are each ranked 16th in the nation.
The Chippewas and Bobcats each invaded Eastern Michigan last season and each took home victories. Central Michigan made quick work of the Eagles, going away with a 34-3 win at Bowen Field House, while Ohio took home a 26-13 victory at the EMU Convocation Center.

DOWN THE STRETCH THEY COME: The Eagles, still winless in an ever-competitive Mid-American Conference, can close out the season with a fury by defeating nationally-ranked Central Michigan and Ohio on the road. Without any wins to show for the effort handed out by the Green and White, Head Coach Derek DelPorto still finds a way to keep everyone focused.
“We have to stick to the task at hand and keep training as hard and smart as we can until the MAC Championships [in March],” said DelPorto of the final stretch. “The duals we have wrestled and the remaining duals are important for seeding purposes at the MAC Championships, but isn't the main focus.
“Bottom line, you have to perform your best at the MAC tournament to get to the NCAA Tournament. As long as we stay focused on that, I am optimistic for a successful MAC Tournament.”

ON THE HORIZON: The 2011 Mid-American Conference Championships aren't too far off as we conclude the final week of the regular season. The highly anticipated event will be hosted by Northern Illinois this year in DeKalb, Ill., March 4-5. EMU senior heavyweight David Wade took second a year ago and will try to repeat as an NCAA Qualifier.
