EMU will head to Toledo, Ohio for the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's cross country team will head to Toledo, Ohio this Saturday, Nov. 12 to compete in the 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional fresh off of claiming its 2011 Mid-American Conference Cross Country Championship on Oct. 29.
The Eagles, who are currently ranked sixth in the Great Lakes Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll, will be facing solid competition at the regional that will include several nationally ranked opponents including No. 1 Wisconsin, No 7. Indiana, No. 19 Michigan and No. 28 Ohio State.
The 10,000-meter men's race will take place on the Ottawa Park course in Toledo, Ohio—a location the Eagles are all too familiar with this season. The Green and White opened their 2011 campaign at the Toledo Rocket Open on Sept. 2 in a first place team finish where they placed four runners in the top-10.
The Eagles will look to win their first regional team championship and continue to add to the program's individual success on that stage. The Green and White have placed an athlete on the All-Region list 53 times throughout its history, and EMU's most recent individual regional champion finish dates back to five seasons ago, where Corey Nowitzke ran to a first place finish of 30:57.94 at the 2006 NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Before Nowitzke, former great Boaz Cheboiywo clinched two career first place finishes at the regional event with his first in 2001 en route to being crowned the 2001 NCAA Division I National Champion. He would defend that regional championship in 2002, racing to a 30:08.1, first place finish.
The 2011 NCAA Great Lakes Regional men's 10,000-meter race will take place at noon. For more information regarding parking, admission and full schedule of events, click HERE.
