YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — With the home portion of the 2011 schedule coming to a close, the Eastern Michigan University football team will welcome in the University at Buffalo Saturday, Nov. 12. Game time is scheduled for 1:06 p.m. at Rynearson Stadium. The contest will not be televised, but WEMU (89.1 FM) will provide audio coverage of the game with Matt Shepard and Andrew Wellock calling the action on the field.
The Eagles enter the contest with a record of 5-4 (3-2 MAC) after a heartbreaking 33-31 setback to Ball State University, Nov. 5. Meanwhile, the Bulls are 2-7 (1-4 MAC) after falling to Miami University, 41-13, in a conference affair in Oxford, Ohio, Oct. 29.
QUALITY UPPERCLASSMEN: Saturday's game with Buffalo marks the final Rynearson Stadium appearance for 16 Eastern Michigan University seniors. That group of seniors has made its mark on the EMU football program, as a total of eight of those players have earned at least one start this season. A complete list of the EMU senior class can be found on page three of this release.
ALL-TIME VERSUS BUFFALO: Buffalo and Eastern Michigan will be meeting for the fifth time in school history. The Eagles hold a 4-0 edge in the series that began in 2001 when EMU recorded a 24-20 victory in Ypsilanti, Oct. 27.
Last season, tailback Dwayne Priest had a career day for the Eagles, running the ball 35 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns in the 21-17 victory at Buffalo, Nov. 20, 2010. The 192 yards were a personal-best for the Roanoke, Va. native, surpassing his previous high of 142 yards from scrimmage against Army, Sept. 5, 2010. In total the Eagles rolled up 272 yards on the ground.
RUN, RUN, RUN: In nine games this season, Eastern Michigan has rushed for 2,114 yards and 15 touchdowns on 430 carries for the 15th-best ground attack in the nation. In fact, the Eagles have been picking up yardage at a prolific rate and are currently on pace to set the school record for most net rushing yards in a season. The 1987 Hurons, who captured the 1987 Mid-American Conference title, ran the ball a program-best 610 times for a total of 2,701 yards. Through its first nine games, that 1987 squad ran the football 452 times for 1,996 yards and 27 touchdowns.
WIN MORE MINUTES ... PAY THE PRICE: The Eagles have made dramatic progress every season under Head Coach Ron English. The 2011 season is the perfect example of that as the Green and White has posted a 5-4 record through its first nine games, surpassing the team's entire win-total during the first two seasons of English's tenure as head coach.
SENIORS CLOSE IT OUT: Saturday's game with the University at Buffalo marks the final Rynearson Stadium appearance for 16 Eastern Michigan University seniors. That group of seniors has made its mark on the EMU football program as all but one of these players have played in at least four games this season.

EMBRACE THE PROCESS: The five wins by the Green and White in 2011 are the most victories in a season by an EMU squad since 1995, when the then-Rick Rasnick led Eagles finished with a 6-5 record.
EASTERN EXPRESS: It is not exactly a reincarnation of the famed SMU “Pony Express” from the mid-1980's, but Eastern Michigan boasts an extremely potent running attack that is starting to turn heads. The Eagles have four players that are averaging more than 50 yards per game on the ground. Dominique Sherrer leads the way at 98.2 yards per game, followed by Alex Gillett (62.8), Javonti Greene (61.9) and Dominique White (60.8). EMU is the only school in the MAC to boast this feat, with Temple being the next closest with three players averaging more than 50 yards per game via the run.
RAZOR SHARP: Against Ball State, Nov. 5, quarterback Alex Gillett completed 12-of-17 passes for 196 yards and four touchdowns. He also led the team with 126 yards rushing on 18 carries, as the Green and White tallied 501 total yards of offense. The four touchdown completions were a career-best for the junior signal-caller, breaking his previous standard of three set at BSU, Oct. 16, 2010, and at Western Michigan, Nov. 13, 2010.
Additionally, the four TD strikes tied the EMU record for most touchdown passes in a regulation contest, and it was just two shy of the school-record of six scoring passes set by Kaino Akina in an overtime game at Akron, Nov. 24, 2001.
GILLETT EXCELS VERSUS BALL STATE: The past two season junior Alex Gillett has saved some of his best performances for the Cardinals of Ball State. In two games, he has racked up 736 total yards and nine touchdowns. In the Eagles' 41-38 overtime win in Muncie, Oct. 16, 2010, Gillett ran for 189 yards and two scores while throwing for 225 yards and three touchdowns. The Clyde, Ohio native rushed for 126 yards against BSU, to go along with 196 yards via the air and a career-best four touchdown passes in the 33-31 loss in Ypsilanti, Nov. 5.
BEST OFFENSIVE SHOWING: The Eagles' 501 yards of total offensive against Ball State, Nov. 5, were the most in three seasons under Head Coach Ron English. The previous high was 491 yards (277 rush, 214 pass) at Western Michigan, Nov. 12, 2010.
ON THE HORIZON: Following the UB game, Eastern Michigan hits the road to battle Kent State University, Nov. 19. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. EMU then closes out the regular season in DeKalb, Ill., Nov. 25, against Northern Illinois University.
