The Cardinals and Eastern traded points through the first half of the set until BSU got on-top 14-11. EMU rebounded with a four-point run to take a 15-14 lead in the frame. Following the Eagles' run, the two squads continued their back-and-forth play until things were tied up at 22. The Green and White shared the wealth offensively as Baker, Iaquaniello, Roback and Short each notched four kills in the opening frame, while Mason racked-up 16 assists in the set. Stein led the defensive front with six digs, while the Eagles had eight block assists in the set. EMU was able to hit a stellar .366 (17-2-41) en route to their one-set lead.

Out of the break, the Cardinals countered with three points of their own including a pair of aces, tying up the set. A Cardinals' serving error setup set-point for Eastern, but they fell short as they dropped the point. Ball State took a 25-24 lead, getting their first chance at winning the set, but came up empty as well.
