Doubles team of Nino Mebuke and Miriam Westerink fall to 3rd-ranked Northwestern duo
COLUMBUS, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University doubles team of senior Miriam Westerink (Rheden, The Netherlands/Thomas a Kempis) and sophomore Nino Mebuke (Tbilsi, Georgia, Russia), just missed upsetting the nationally third-ranked Northwestern duo of Linda Abu Mushrefova and Nida Hamilton, falling by an 8-6 count here Saturday in the third day of the USTF/ITA Regional Championships hosted by Ohio State University.
In other Saturday action for the Eagles, the doubles team of freshman Ankita Bhatia (Gurgaon, India-Delhi Public Schools) and senior Marcela Rivero (Santa Cruz, Bolivia-Saint George) lost, 9-7; to the Ohio State University duo of Tiffany Dittmer and Kelsey Becker.
In singles action Saturday EMU's Westerink fell to Michigan's Sarah Lee, 6-0, 6-3.
