BUSY WEEK FOR THE EAGLE SPIKERS: The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team will be hitting the court often this week with four matches in a five-day span. The Eagles will travel to Rochester, Mich., Sept. 7, for a non-conference tilt versus Oakland University before heading north to the Spartan Invitational, Sept. 10-11, in East Lansing, Mich. EMU will square off against Eastern Illinois University, Clemson University and Michigan State University. All matches as MSU will take place at Jenison Field House.

OFF TO A SIZZLING START: The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team is off to a sensational start to the 2010 campaign with a perfect 7-0 record, that includes winning 21 of its 22 sets played. The Eagles are off to their best start since the 2003 campaign. To further demonstrate how dominant a start to the year it has been, the Eagles have nearly doubled its opposition in kills (314 to 188), hitting percentage (.238 to .076) and points (419.5 to 258.0).

ONE OF THE BEST IN HISTORY: In a quick check of the record books the Eagles are statistically off to one of the finest starts in the program's 35-year history. The 7-0 start is tied with the 1990 and the 2003 squads, as both of those teams also cruised through early portions of the schedule. Led by Head Coach Nona Richardson, the 1990 team won 21 of its first 22 sets played, while Berrington's 2003 squad started a perfect 22-for-22 in sets played.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: Head Coach Kim Berrington has relied heavily on underclassmen, with freshmen and sophomores accounting for 72.5 percent of the squad's kills, 69.9 percent of its blocks and 69.7 percent of its points.

2009 IS ONLY A MEMORY: With the victory over Iona, the Green and White surpassed its entire 2009 win total.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES: Eastern Michigan has dominated the all-time series versus Oakland, winning 21 of the 24 matches played. Last season, the Grizzlies took home a hard-fought 3-1 victory last season at the Convocation Center, Oct. 6, 2009, to end the losing skid that dated back to the 2000 season.

SECOND TITLE IN AS MANY WEEKS: The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team upended Providence College , 3-1, to win the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg Pa., Sept. 3-4. The Eagles had two players named to the All-Tournament team, juniors Ashley Mason and Haley Stein. The invitational title marks the second in as many weekends, as the week before the Eagles captured the championship of the 35th Annual Comfort Suites Invitational, Aug. 27-28, at the Sam Houston State University.

ROBACK FITTING RIGHT IN: Freshman Paige Roback continued to shine as the youth movement is in full-effect for the Eagles. In three matches at the Bucknell Invitational, Sept. 3-4, Roback averaged 3.00 kills, 1.56 digs, 0.33 blocks and 0.22 assists per set while keeping a hitting percentage of .305 as the Eagles won its second consecutive tournament title.
The Maumee, Ohio native's best match came in the weekend finale against Big East Conference foe Providence College, Roback notched 10 kills, two blocks, two digs and a .368 attack percentage. She has posted six-or-more kills in every match this season, including racking up double digits in put-a-ways on four occasions.
