Volleyball Cruises to BU Tournament Title

Eagles Sweep Past Providence to Improve to 7-0
LEWISBURG, Pa. (EMUEagles.com)- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team continued its winning streak Saturday Sept. 4, versus Providence College improving to 7-0 on the season. The Eagles again walked away with some hardware winning the Bucknell Tournament, its second tournament championship in as many weeks, sweeping the Friars, 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-18).
The first set was controlled by Providence with the Green and White not taking the lead until the 19-18 mark. The Eagles went full force ahead never looking back, going on a 5-0 run to take the first set by a score of 25-20. Paige Roback led Eastern with five kills and one assist.
The Friars were unable to handle the Eagles in the second and third set, never leading the game and posting only one kill to the Eagles 15 in the second set. The Eagles posted a .542 hitting percentage in the third set while the Friars only recorded a .125. Jenn Swartz and Rachel Iaquaniello led the Eagles in the second set with four kills apiece. Lauren Fletcher led Providence in the third set with four kills.
Ashley Mason finished the match with 34 assists and six digs while Haley Stein posted eleven digs and one service ace. Roback and Swartz both recorded 10 kills to finish out the tournament. Mason and Stein earned All-Tournament honors for their play this weekend.
The Eagles are back in action Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. against the Oakland University Grizzlies.
