YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team will be hitting the court often this week with three matches in a five-day span. The Eagles will travel to Dayton, Ohio, Sept. 28, for a non-conference tilt versus Wright State University before heading north for a Friday, Oct. 1, Mid-American Conference test against the University of Toledo. From there Eastern motors to Muncie, Ind. for a Saturday, Oct. 2, conference battle versus Ball State University. First serve for all three matches is scheduled for 7 p.m.

OFF TO A SIZZLING START: The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team is off to a sensational start to the 2010 campaign with a 14-3 record, that includes winning 45 of its 61 sets played. EMU's 14-3 start is the program's best since the 2003 campaign when the Green and White notched a 16-1 record through its first 17 matches. The 2-0 start to Mid-American Conference play is also the squad's best since the 2007 season.

EAGLES TRAVEL TO WRIGHT STATE FOR NON-CONFERENCE TILT: The Eagles and Raiders are squaring off for the 18th time with Eastern Michigan holding a 9-7-1 advantage in the all-time series. The meeting will be the first since 2008, when Eastern posted a 3-0 victory at the Convocation Center, Sept. 9. EMU also took the last meeting at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio, escaping with a 3-2 decision, Sept. 5, 2007.

EAGLES AND ROCKETS BATTLE FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON: The Eagles make the short trek down US-23 to take on the University of Toledo Friday, Oct. 1, at Savage Arena. EMU leads the all-time series, 43-12, as the teams split the 2009 season series with each team posting victories on its home court.

BALL STATE ON THE HORIZON: EMU and Ball State are meeting for the 59th time in the all-time series, which the Cardinals lead 38-19. However, the Eagles swept the 2009 season series with the Cardinals for just the second time since the 1986 campaign and just the fourth in the program's history. Additionally, the 3-2 (13-25,25-20,25-21,25-27,19-17) at John E. Worthen Arena was the Eagles' second-ever in the 17-year history of Worthen Arena and the first since EMU posted a 3-0 decision Oct. 27, 2007.

YOUTH MOVEMENT: Head Coach Kim Berrington has relied heavily on underclassmen with freshmen and sophomores accounting for 74.3 percent of the squad's kills, 62.6 percent of its blocks and 70.5 percent of its points.

FOURTH-LARGEST TURNAROUND IN SCHOOL HISTORY: The nine-game improvement from five wins in 2009 to the 14 victories this season is tied for the fourth biggest in school history. The current standard of a 12-game turnaround came during the 1990 campaign, when the Eagles went from 18 victories to 30 wins, and again in 2001, when EMU went from seven wins to 19. The 1993 team posted a 10-game improvement and the 1999 squad finished with a nine-game improvement.

KEEP 'EM DOWN: Only 10 teams have hit better than .100 against the Eagles this season and only four teams have hit better than .200. Eastern Michigan ranks second in the Mid-American Conference with an opponent hitting percentage of .125.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Green and White have enjoyed the friendly confines of the EMU Convocation Center over the past 10 seasons, posting a 67-34 mark in the “Nest,” including three home victories this season.

IT'S A LONG ROAD: Eastern Michigan started off the 2010 season playing its first 14 matches on the road. The Eagles traveled over 4,846 miles round-trip in its first four weekends. Eastern opened the season at the 35th Annual Comfort Suites/SHSU Invitational, Sept. 27-28, and then travel to Lewisburg, Pa., Sept. 3-4, for the Bucknell Tournament. From there, Eastern played at Oakland University, Sept. 7, before heading north to the Michigan State Tournament, Sept. 10-11. The Green and White jetted south to the Davidson Invitational in Davidson, N.C., Sept. 17-18, before returning to the Convocation Center to tip off the home season, Sept. 21, versus Youngstown State.
