YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University football team returns home for a homecoming date with Mid-American Conference foe Ohio University. Saturday's contest is Homecoming, with more than 60 activities planned for on and off campus, a week-long celebration with the festivities culminating with the Eagles hooking up with the Bobcats at noon.
THE TEAMS: The Eastern Michigan University football team has an 0-4 record and an 0-2 Mid-American Conference mark. Ohio is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league action.
SETTING THE SCENE: Eastern Michigan enters the Ohio game with an 0-4 overall record after a 73-20 loss at No. 2 Ohio State Saturday, Sept. 25. The Eagles are seeking their first Mid-American Conference win after dropping decisions to Miami, 28-21, and Central Michigan, 52-14.
Ohio enters Saturday's game with a 1-3 overall record after a heart-breaking 24-23 setback at Marshall, Sept. 25. The Bobcats opened the season with a 33-10 win over non-conference foe Wofford and have losses to Toledo, 20-13, Ohio State, 43-7, and
HOMECOMING 2010: The EMU-Ohio game Saturday, Oct. 2, will be Homecoming 2010 for the Eagles. The game will be the 83rd Homecoming Game in school history. The tradition started in 1926 when then-Michigan Normal College downed Kalamazoo College, 19-0, on Nov. 29. The Green and White are 43-37-2 in homecoming games, including winning three of the last five contests. The Eagles beat Western Michigan, 19-2, Oct. 27, 2007, Toledo, 17-13, Oct. 21, 2006 and Kent State, 27-20, Oct. 1, 2005 before losing to Northern Ill., 37-0, in 2008 and falling to Temple last year, 24-12, Oct. 3.
ALL-TIME VS. OHIO: Ohio and Eastern Michigan will be meeting for the 28th time in school history. The Bobcats hold a 15-11-1 edge in the series, including winning the last three meetings in the series dating back to the 2002 campaign. The Eagles' last home victory to the Bobcats occurred Oct. 16, 1999, when EMU escaped with a 27-26 victory after the OU extra-point attempt was blocked with 1:06 remaining in the contest.
BIG PLAY RECEIVER: Sophomore wide receiver Kinsman Thomas (Bennettsville, S.C.-Marlboro County) has 22 receptions and six touchdown catches in his 12-game EMU career and big plays have been a huge part of his success. Three of his touchdown passes have been for 40 yards or more and two of those have been for 71 and 77 yards. He has caught 22 passes for 473 yards and a 21.5-yard average per catch during his career.
BACK TO '60: The EMU department of athletics is honoring the team from 1960 on their 50th anniversery at the EMU-Ohio game Saturday, Oct. 2. The returning players are listed below.

LEADING THE MAC: Senior linebacker Neal Howey (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's-Upper Iowa) is leading the Mid-American Conference in tackles with an 11.00 per-game average. The Eagles as a team are also tops in the MAC in net punting at 39.91.
NIGHT GAME AT VANDY: The time has been set for the EMU at Vanderbilt game, Oct. 11. Game time will be 6 p.m. (7 p.m. EDT) at Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, Tenn.
LONG-RANGE SCORES: True freshman wide receiver Donald Scott (Apopka, Fla.-Apopka) has gone long-range on his two touchdown receptions this year. His first was a 51-yard touchdown catch, Sept. 18, against Central Michigan and his second was a 32-yard TD strike at Ohio State, Sept. 25.
STRONG START: True sophomore linebacker Matt Boyd (Southfield, Mich.-Lathrup) was impressive in the first start of his career Saturday, Sept. 25, at Ohio State. The 6-foot, 232-pound Boyd had a career-high 14 stops against the Buckeyes. Teammate backer Neal Howey (Monroe, Mich.-St. Mary's-Upper Iowa) also had double-figure tackles against Ohio State, turning in 10 stops on the day.
TELEVISION TIME: The 2010 EMU football team will make six television appearances. The EMU-Ohio State game, Sept. 25, was on ABC, with the EMU-Vanderbilt contest, Oct. 9, to be shown on ESPNU. The EMU-Ohio game, Oct. 2, will be shown on ESPN regional and there will be three games, EMU at Miami, Sept. 11, EMU home vs. Toledo, Oct. 30, and EMU at Buffalo, Nov. 20, all on SportsTime Ohio.
PUNTING POWER: The Eagles' punting game has been a pleasant surprise through the first four games. First-year punter Jay Karutz (North Ryde, New South Wales, Australia-Holy Cross College) has punted 23 times for 947 yards and a 41.2 yard average, to rank 50th nationally. He has dropped seven of his 23 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line. As a team, the Eagles are 20th in the NCAA in net punting at 39.91.
SHARING DUTIES: The EMU offense has called on both young quarterbacks for significant action this year. Sophomore Alex Gillett (Green Springs, Ohio-Clyde) has started all four games this year and has completed 47-of-81 passes for 550 yards and six touchdowns. Gillett is also second on the team in rushing with 174 yards gained on 44 carries with one touchdown on the ground. Redshirt freshman Devontae Payne (Cleveland, Ohio-South) has played in three games and completed 15-of-33 passes for 156 yards.
MOVING UP: Senior tailback Dwayne Priest (Roanoke, Va.-Fleming-Fork Union Academy) is moving up in several EMU career rushing categories. He has played in 38 games for the Eagles, earning 18 starts in the past four years. He has rushed 389 times for the 10th spot with 1,510 yards gained, 12th in history, and his 18 touchdowns, 16 by rush and two by reception, is tied for a tie for 14th.
