Eagles win second MAC contest in a row

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team captured its second Mid-American Conference victory and its 14th win of the season Saturday, Sept. 25, here at the Convocation Center versus Kent State University (25-20, 25-19, 25-19).
With the win, Eastern Michigan advances to 14-3 overall (2-0 MAC) while Kent falls to 7-10 overall (0-2 MAC).
The Eagles proved to be too much for the Flashes sweeping in three sets. The Green and White out-hit Kent, posting a .244 (43-of-119) attack percentage, with the Flashes recording a .130 (34-of-123) percentage. Rachel Iaquaniello (Plymouth, Mich.-Dearborn Divine Child) tallied 11 kills and 10 digs for the match, while Kristen Baker (Mentor, Ohio-Mentor), Paige Roback (Maumee, Ohio-Notre Dame Academy) and Jenn Swartz (Canton, Mich.-Westland John Glenn) recorded seven kills a piece. Roback and Haley Stein (Carleton, Mich.-Monroe St. Mary's Catholic Central) both posted two service aces and Ashley Mason (Eastlake, Ohio-Lake Catholic) dished out 32 assists. Brivule led KSU with 12 kills and 11 digs.
The first set was controlled by the Eagles, who capitalized on 15-of-38 attack attempts (.263). Freshman Erin Short (Orrville, Ohio-Orrville) led the Green and White with five kills, while Mason tallied 13 assists.
Despite tying the set three times, KSU was never able to take the lead during the second set leaving the Eagles victorious 25-19. EMU recorded a .253 attack percentage (31-of-83), while the Flashes only posted a mark of .130 (21-77). The middle set was led by Kent State's Liva Brivule with nine kills and eight digs. Sophomore Iaquaniello paced the Eagles with seven kills and six digs.
The Eagles are back in action, Tuesday, Sept. 28, when they travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on the Raiders of Wright State followed by a MAC contest versus the Toledo Rockets. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
