YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --  The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team remains on the road with a trip to the Keystone State for the Bucknell Invitational, Sept. 3-4, in Davis Gym. The Eagles open tournament play Friday, Sept. 3, against the host Bison at 7:30 p.m. EMU concludes the tournament Saturday, Sept. 4, when the team faces Iona at 10 a.m. followed by Providence at 3 p.m.. All matches will take place at Davis Gym on the Lewisburg, Pa. campus.

ALL-TIME VERSUS THE BUCKNELL INVITATIONAL FIELD: The Eagles have never squared off with any of the teams in this weekend's tournament. In fact, Eastern has a very limited history against any of the three school's conference affiliates. Last season the Eagles lost 3-0 to Patriot League foe Army in West Point, N.Y., Aug. 29, 2009, and just last weekend EMU upended Marist, 3-0, out of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, Aug. 28. The last time the Green and White squared off against a Big East Conference member was Sept. 18, 2009, against DePaul, when the Blue Demons posted a 3-1 victory.

EASTERN ROLLS TO SHSU INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team claimed the title of the 35th Annual Comfort Suites Invitational with a pair of victories Saturday afternoon, Aug. 28, at Johnson Coliseum on the campus of Sam Houston State University. The Eagles were the only undefeated team in the tournament after sweeping the host Bearkats (25-15, 32-30, 25-15) and Marist College (25-16, 25-20, 25-18) on the final day.
The invitational title marks the first for EMU since 2008 when the squad took home the Bash in the Boro Championship, Sept. 12-13, in Statesboro, Ga.. During that weekend the Green and White defeated Charleston Southern (3-1), UNC Wilmington (3-0) and Georgia Southern (3-2).
Eastern Michigan improved to 4-0 on the young season and is perfect through four matches for the first-time since the 2005 campaign when the Green and White opened with a 5-0 mark.

IAQUANIELLO NAMED SHSU INVITATIONAL MVP: Sophomore Rachel Iaquaniello picked up right where she finished the 2009 campaign, powering home a team-best 54 kills and 68.0 points on the weekend. For her effort, the Plymouth, Mich. native was selected the tournament's MVP. On the weekend, Iaquaniello posted double-digit kills in every match, including a season-high 15 put-a-ways versus SHSU.

MASON NAMED TO THE ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM AT SHSU: Junior setter Ashley Mason collected All-Tournament accolades at the 35th Annual Comfort Suites Invitational, Sept. 3-4, finishing with 168 set assists, 35 digs, nine total blocks, eight kills and six service aces in the 13 sets played. Mason's best match came in the season-opener against Prairie View, Aug. 28, posting 36 assists, nine digs, four blocks and three kills in a match that lasted just an hour.

BACK ON TRACK: Just four matches into the 2010 campaign the Eagles are already one victory shy of equalling the entire win total from the 2009 season. The Green and White finished 2009 with a 5-28 mark.

DOG DAYS WELL SUITED FOR THE EAGLES: The month of August has treated the EMU volleyball team well with a 23-12 all-time record in the month. Additionally, the Eagles' 4-0 record during the month is tied with the 1996 and 2003 squads for the best August mark in the program's history.

IT'S A LONG ROAD: Eastern Michigan starts off the 2010 season playing its first 14 matches on the road. The Eagles will travel over 4,846 miles round-trip in its first four weekends. Eastern opened the season at the 35th Annual Comfort Suites/SHSU Invitational, Sept. 27-28, and then travel to Lewisburg, Pa., Sept. 3-4, for the Bucknell Tournament. From there, Eastern plays at Oakland University, Sept. 7, before heading north to the Michigan State Tournament, Sept. 10-11. The Green and White jet south to the Davidson Invitational in Davidson, N.C., Sept. 17-18, before returning to the Convocation Center to tip off the home season, Sept. 21, versus Youngstown State.
