Scott Murphy Selected MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Eastern Michigan University senior swimmer Scott Murphy (Houston, Texas-Cypress) was named the Mid-American Conference scholar athlete of the week, the conference office announced March 12. It is the first time that Murphy has won the award.

Murphy helped the Eagles to their fourth consecutive and 29th overall MAC title at the MAC Championship, March 4-6, in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Eagles won the title in dominating fashion, racking up 773 points.

Murphy, who boasts a 3.33 GPA as a management major, was selected first team All-MAC. He finished first in the 200 breaststroke in his final collegiate meet to repeated as MAC Champion in the event with a time of 1:59.79. Murphy finished as the runner up in the 100 breaststroke and was also the second leg of the 400 Medley Relay and 200 Medley Relay teams that both finished second.
