EAGLES SET FOR SENIOR/ALUMNI DAY DAUL:
The Eastern Michigan University wrestling team will close out the 2009-10 regular season with its fifth and final Mid-American Conference dual against Ohio University, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. inside the Convocation Center.

Sunday's event will honor the seven graduating seniors: Justin Brandel, Sean Clair, Cody Hier, Chris Jenkins, Drew Lesko, Josh Lewis and David Pienaar, as well as distinguished EMU wrestling alumni. “We anticipate a great crowd and hope as many Alumni and supporters will be back in Ypsilanti to celebrate our seven seniors' careers,” said Head Coach Derek DelPorto.

Additionally, fans will get the opportunity to get a first hand look as the wrestling program reveals its state-of-the-art renovation plans for Bowen Field House following the match in the Eagles Nest on the second floor of the Convocation Center.

LAST TIME OUT VS. OHIO: The Eagles (10-11-1; 0-4 MAC) are still in search of their first conference victory of the season against the Bobcats (11-4; 2-1 MAC), who handed EMU a 21-13 setback last season, Feb. 20, at Bowen Field House. In that match, the Eagles jumped out to a 12-6 lead but lost the final four matches as Ohio was able to complete the comeback.

OUT IN A FLASH: Last Sunday's (Feb. 14) road test against No. 20-ranked Kent State University proved too big of a hurdle to overcome as the Eagles fell to the Golden Flashes, 30-6. Sophomore Corey Phillips and freshman Alex Ortman recorded the only victories on the day for EMU with a pair of strong performances.

Phillips (12-11; 1-2 MAC) got the Eagles on the board at 141 lbs. with a 6-1 decision over Chase Skonieczny, while Ortman (15-9; 2-2 MAC) bested Ross Tice, 3-1, at 165 lbs.

Senior David Wade (15-11; 1-1 MAC) also made a bid for his second conference triumph of the season, but fell short in a hard-fought 7-5 overtime loss to Joe Tymoszczuk in the heavyweight match.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: EMU's seven seniors have combined for a 59-65 in the 2009-10 season with Sean Clair leading the way in wins with 19. Chris Jenkins has also been ranked as high as 18th nationally this season at 125 lbs.

LAST CALL FOR EMU OPEN WRESTLING CLINIC: Sunday will be the final opportunity for eighth to 12th grader to participate in an EMU open wrestling clinic! Cost is $10 per wrestler with a maximum capacity of 60 wrestlers.

MAC CHAMPIONSHIP REMINDER: The 2010 MAC Championship will be hosted by Central Michigan University, March 6-7, in Mt. Pleasant, Mich. The Eagles will be in search of their first conference championship since the 1995-96 season. In order to achieve this feat, EMU will have to dethrone the Chippewas, who have won eight consecutive MAC titles.

Last season, the Eagles saw five-of-10 participants place in the two-day tournament. John McClure stunned the field at 197 lbs. with a first place finish and an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. In addition, Chris Jenkins (125 lbs.), J.J. Johnson (149 lbs.) and David Wade (heavyweight) claimed third place honors while Sean Clair (133 lbs.) walked away with a fourth place finish.
