EAGLES CLOSE OUT 2010 AT SAMFORD: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will close out the 2010 portion of the 2010-11 schedule with a Saturday, Dec. 31, 2010, non-conference game at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Samford's Pete Hanna Center (5,000).
EMU is 2-9 overall after a third-place finish at the Lou Henson Tournament, Dec. 20-21, hosted by Oakland University.
Samford, meanwhile, is 8-5 on the year after a 58-40 loss at Creighton, Dec. 22.
EMU VS. SAMFORD: EMU and Samford are meeting for the second time in the series. The two squared off for the first time last year, Dec. 22, 2009, and Samford recorded a 58-56 win over Eastern in the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Despite Brandon Bowdry's (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) 14th career double-double and effective three-point shooting, the Eastern Michigan University Eagles were unable to stave off an equally potent Samford University shooting attack as they dropped a non-conference tilt, 58-56, to the Bulldogs Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at the Convocation Center. Bowdry finished the contest with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) who spearheaded the long distance attack for the Eagles, finished the game with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting (5-of-9 from beyond the arc). As a team, the Eagles connected on 10-of-27 threes, while Samford shot 12-of-24 from deep.
Andy King and Trey Montgomery combined to score 34 points for Samford.
BOWDRY TWO-FOR-TWO: EMU senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) was named to the all-tournament team for both in-season tournaments this season. He was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the Basketball Travelers Invitational, Dec. 3-5, 2010, in Moscow, Idaho. Bowdry averaged 21.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the three games. The 6-foot-6 senior posted two double-doubles in the Lou Henson Tournament hosted by Oakland University, Dec. 20-21.
