EAGLES CLOSE OUT 2010 AT SAMFORD: The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team will close out the 2010 portion of the 2010-11 schedule with a Saturday, Dec. 31, 2010, non-conference game at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Samford's Pete Hanna Center (5,000).
EMU is 2-9 overall after a third-place finish at the Lou Henson Tournament, Dec. 20-21, hosted by Oakland University.
Samford, meanwhile, is 8-5 on the year after a 58-40 loss at Creighton, Dec. 22.

EMU VS. SAMFORD: EMU and Samford are meeting for the second time in the series. The two squared off for the first time last year, Dec. 22, 2009, and Samford recorded a 58-56 win over Eastern in the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Despite Brandon Bowdry's (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) 14th career double-double and effective three-point shooting, the Eastern Michigan University Eagles were unable to stave off an equally potent Samford University shooting attack as they dropped a non-conference tilt, 58-56, to the Bulldogs Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at the Convocation Center. Bowdry finished the contest with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Senior guard Carlos Medlock (Detroit, Mich.-Murray Wright) who spearheaded the long distance attack for the Eagles, finished the game with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting (5-of-9 from beyond the arc). As a team, the Eagles connected on 10-of-27 threes, while Samford shot 12-of-24 from deep.
Andy King and Trey Montgomery combined to score 34 points for Samford.

BOWDRY TWO-FOR-TWO: EMU senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) was named to the all-tournament team for both in-season tournaments this season. He was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the Basketball Travelers Invitational, Dec. 3-5, 2010, in Moscow, Idaho. Bowdry averaged 21.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in the three games. The 6-foot-6 senior posted two double-doubles in the Lou Henson Tournament hosted by Oakland University, Dec. 20-21. He scored 24 with 10 boards in a loss to Valparaiso, Dec. 20, and came back with 22 points and 14 rebounds in the third-place win over Rochester College, Dec. 21.

CLIMBING UP THE RECORD BOOK: EMU senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) has moved into the top 10 in both EMU career scoring and rebounding. After the first 11 games of the 2010-11 season Bowdry has scored 1,499 career points to rank 9th and his 837 rebounds is good for the 5th spot.

HITTING THE CENTURY MARK: EMU senior wing Will Cooper (Detroit, Mich.-Pershing-Bridgton Academy) has played in 102 games for the Eagles, earning 28 starts during his four-year career. Teammate Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) has played in 107 games, starting 99 times.

CONVO RECORDS: EMU set or tied two Convocation Center records in a 68-65 overtime loss to Detroit Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010. The Eagles hauled down 62 team rebounds against the Titans, breaking the Convo record of 54 by a visiting Buffalo team, March 3, 2003. Senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor (Mich.) Truman) tied the single-game rebound mark for the Convo with 19 boards. That total tied the mark shared by EMU's Tyson Radney who had 19 twice, against UWGB (11-29-00) and Grambling (12-23-00), and Ball State's Therron Smith (1-5-02) versus EMU.

JANTON COMES UP BIG: EMU Head Coach Charles E. Ramsey called on reserve center Kamil Janton (Tarnow, Poland-Bartlett H.S.-Chicago,Ill.) early in the first half against Rochester College, Dec. 21, and the 6-foot-10 junior rewarded his head coach with a career offensive night. Janton scored a career-best 11 points and hauled down a career-high eight rebounds in 25 minutes of action to help EMU post an 82-63 win.

BOWDRY TURNS IN CAREER-BEST EFFORTS: EMU senior forward Brandon Bowdry (St. Louis, Mo.-Taylor, Mich.-Truman) has turned in two career-best performances this season. In the Michigan State game, Nov. 12, Bowdry scored a career-best 32 points, connected on a career-high five three-point field goals and tied his career-high with 15 rebounds against the No. 2 ranked team in the nation. In the Detroit game, Dec. 11, Bowdry just missed his career-best with a 31-point efffort, but turned in a career-high 19 rebounds against the Titans.
