YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --  The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team will have a rare split weekend in store, as it travels Thursday, Oct. 28, to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to face instate rival Central Michigan University. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Finch Fieldhouse. Then Saturday, Oct. 30, the Eagles head to Athens, Ohio to tangle with the defending Mid-American Conference Tournament Champions, Ohio University, at 7 p.m.
With six matches still remaining in the regular season, the Eagles are locked in a three-way tie with Ball State and Western Michigan for second place in the MAC West Division with an 8-2 record. Northern Illinois sits atop the division with a 9-1 mark.

REMAINING WHITE-HOT: The Eastern Michigan University volleyball team is off to a sensational start to the 2010 campaign with a 21-6 record, that includes winning 68 of its 100 sets played. EMU's 21-6 start is the program's best since the 2002 campaign when the Green and White notched an 19-6 record through its first 27 matches. The 8-2 start to Mid-American Conference play is also the squad's best since the 2005 season.

LARGEST TURNAROUND IN SCHOOL HISTORY: The 16-game improvement from five wins in 2009 to the 21 victories this season the largest in school history. The previous standard of a 12-game turnaround came during the 1990 campaign, when the Eagles went from 18 victories to 30 wins, and again in 2001, when EMU went from seven wins to 19. The 1993 team posted a 10-game improvement and the 1999 squad finished with a nine-game improvement.

EAGLES AND CHIPPEWAS RENEW RIVALRY: In-state rivals EMU and CMU are hooking up for the 72nd meeting in the all-time series. Central Michigan holds a 51-20 edge in the series, however, Eastern Michigan posted a hard-fought 3-2 victory (25-21, 21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 15-10) in the earlier meeting this season, Sept. 23, at the Convocation Center. Freshman outside hitter Paige Roback posted a double-double for the Eagles, notching 14 kills and 17 digs, while teammate Rachel Iaquaniello had 20 kills and nine digs from the opposite side.

EMU LOOKS TO END A NINE-MATCH DROUGHT VERSUS OHIO: On Saturday, Oct. 30, the Eagles will be looking to end a nine-match losing skid to the Bobcats dating back to the 2002 campaign, when Ohio notched a 3-2 decision in Athens, Ohio, Oct. 5. Last season, Ohio pulled out a four-set thriller in Athens, Ohio, Oct. 31, 2009, at the Convocation Center in Ypsilanti.

VICTORY NUMBER 20 COMES AT BUFFALO: Head Coach Kim Berrington's squad picked their 20th victory of the season with a 3-1 victory over the University at Buffalo, Oct. 22. Eastern Michigan has posted at least 20 wins in a season just 10 times in the program's 35-year history, and it marks the first-time since 2007 when the squad finished with a 20-14 mark. Berrington has been the mentor for six of those 10 seasons in which the Eagles have posted more than 20 victories.

CHECKING THE CAREER STATS: Junior Ashley Mason is now just 71 assists shy of surpassing Gretchen Olsen (1991-94) for fourth place in the EMU record books. Mason has 3,315 assists in 354 career sets played. Meanwhile, junior Haley Stein passed 1,300 in her career and 39 more to pass Sara Schaub (1997-00) for third place with 1,388 digs.
Rachel Iaquaniello is inching her way towards the career charts list with 806 kills, 504 digs and 51 service aces in 230 sets.

HOME SWEET HOME: The Green and White have enjoyed the friendly confines of the EMU Convocation Center over the past 10 seasons, posting a 70-36 mark in the “Nest,” including six home victories this season.

BERRINGTON ENTERS CONCORDIA HALL OF FAME: EMU head volleyball coach Kim Berrington was inducted into the Concordia University Ann Arbor's Hall of Fame Saturday, Oct. 16. Berrington was recognized along with her 1995 volleyball team that posted a 33-14 overall record and finished as the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) national runner-up.
The 1995 Concordia volleyball team was a force to be reckoned with in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Lady Cardinals swept their way through the competition and finished the WHAC schedule with a perfect 10-0 record on their way to capturing the 1995 WHAC Championship crown. Many individual records were set during the 1995 season by many of the players on the roster. Records for most kills (Kim Chaffee), most assists (Karen Keskey), solo blocks (Sarah Riske), block assists (Sarah Riske) and digs (Amy Wilson).
